🚨 Court victory in SF today against OpenAI: Despite OpenAI’s own “mass casualty” flags on his chats, a human intervened, restoring his account then refused to hand over the logs that could reveal who else is at risk. Today the court ruled: Chatlogs must be turned over and he stays banned from ChatGPT. Incredible that even after Tumbler Ridge and FSU, OpenAI is still in Court fighting to keep criminals (he was previously arrested for assault with a deadly weapon) on their platform. No one should have to sue to make OpenAI take “mass casualty” threats seriously.

Emirates executive Patrick Brannelly in new interview on why they adopted @Starlink: "The legacy systems weren’t working. No matter how much money we threw at them, passengers still complained, and it was impossible technically for everybody that wanted to connect to connect. Then Starlink came along saying, ‘We guarantee it, it will work.’ With a very pragmatic technical viewpoint, insisting on XWAPs, to connect 100%, and to install more than one antenna to handle demand and for redundancy. It was like for the first time, talking to people that actually understood how the internet works in a highly dense environment on an aircraft. It seemed our legacy connectivity industry didn’t really understand the core technologies needed to deliver customer connectivity happiness. But Starlink absolutely understood it. Now, in addition, the big fundamental shift from the first generation of Starlink was the evolution of satellite-to-satellite laser connectivity. So, if you’re a middle of the ocean, where you’ve got nowhere to ground the traffic, Starlink could just pass the traffic through adjacent satellites until there’s one over a ground station. That worked much better than I think anybody had imagined." Emirates has already started to install Starlink on its entire fleet of ~232 aircraft, with full completion expected by mid-2027. Customers onboard with Starlink are already seeing 10-20X internet speed improvements. (full SatelliteToday interview linked below)

Interesting framing, but it's actually worse than this. With cancer the median victim is 73 whereas the median car accident victim is 35. If you're anti-self-driving you're arguing for more widows and more orphans. And far more people in wheelchairs.
Brett Winton@wintonARK

the annual social cost of cancer and auto accidents are very roughly equivalent imagine a new cancer drug came out that reduced mortality by 90% across *every* cancer And the AMA aggressively lobbied against it because of its potential suppressive impact on hospital visits and surgeries... That is the unions wrt to autonomous robotaxis right now.

NEWS: U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to adopt Grok. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) says it’s “proud” to move forward with a plan to deploy xAI’s Grok across the agency. The USDA is also sponsoring Grok for federal approval, calling it a step toward equipping its workforce with the most capable AI available. A major win for xAI. (Source: Fast Company)

It is telling that those who oppose Elon Musk's investment in South Africa can offer nothing but hollow insults and cheap propaganda. The claim that Starlink is a tool for colonization isn't just daft, it reveals a hilarious level of cognitive shallowness. It proves that the critics don't even understand the technology they are arguing against. You cannot stop Musk's brilliance or the massive contributions he's making to humanity. We are simply witnessing a man who refuses to bend to a crooked system that everyone else has already bowed to. There is no reason to celebrate a status quo built on clear racism and systemic corruption.

The demand for Elon Musk to surrender 30% of his business to operate in South Africa is absurd. Bringing infrastructure, creating high-skill jobs, and expanding the national tax base should be more than enough contribution from any global entity. The South African government claims this is about compliance, but in reality, it's a system of state sanctioned theft. While other corporations have quietly paid for political patronage to bypass these rules, Musk is calling out the corruption. This 30% norm hasn't empowered the people, it has simply enriched a circle of political elites. Most businesses take the easy way out and pay the bribe, but Musk has the integrity to stand his ground and expose the rot.
