Damage from a recent pole fire that caused an outage in some southwest Calgary neighbourhoods! Our automatic restoration systems kicked in quickly to restore power to as many customers as possible by rerouting power while crews made repairs to bring lights back on for rest of the affected customers. Pole fires happen when salt and dirt builds up on insulators and weather conditions like wet snow or rain causes electricity to track across the insulator, causing a fire. While pole fires are unpredictable, we minimize these incidents by proactively retrofitting high-risk poles with less conductive fibre-glass cross arms and replacing insulators with polyethylene versions. #YYC #PowerOutage
