Council of Europe History@CoE_History

It’s “Opre Roma!” month in the Council of Europe @coe , and we’re posting 1⃣ #resource a day to help you teach the #history of #Roma and #Travellers ! 👆 First, let’s have a look at how Roma and Travellers have been represented in history textbooks and curricula, with this publication: “The representation of Roma in European Curricula and Textbooks” This analytical report by @coe, @romaeducation and @GeorgEckert was issued in 2⃣0⃣2⃣0⃣ and gives a comprehensive overview on the portrayal of Roma in European curricula and textbooks. The curriculum research focuses on history, civics and geography, whilst the textbook analysis comprises both a quantitative analysis showing the frequency of references to Roma, as well as a qualitative overview in terms of history, demographics, culture and contribution to society amongst others. Conclusions and recommendations are formulated at the end of the document. Full read and download in the link in comments. #HistoryAtHeart

Honoured to be part of the Welcoming session at @EuroClio of History Educators Annual Conference #PatternsinHistory2025 ! @ailincai_aurora, head of @CoE_History talked about the importance of direct cooperation between #policymakers and #teachers. 🗨️ “There is no better way to stay connected to the realities of the classroom than by listening to the experiences and perspectives of those who teach and learn history. The forthcoming Council of Europe @coe #Recommendation on history education in the #digital age will place strong emphasis on the teaching environment, as well as the practices, challenges, and opportunities encountered by both teachers and learners.” #HistoryAtHeart
