the crypto bubble has burst. this is the dot-com bubble burst moment - it is happening now. we are in it. do you feel the soap around you? everything we knew 6-12 mos ago about valuations, revenue & usage projections, grant sizes, employee comp, will be fundamentally different from here on out this is a news-flash: crypto/web3/decentralized things are not *currently* as valuable as we think they are. our work is not materially valued by the layman, the financier or even our families, especially in this economy. many tokens, protocols & private cos will survive, some existing & new business models will thrive! but most existing tokens will continue to reprice towards $0. we were arrogant to think this period of abundance would last - myself included. this is just how cycles go, cost cutting & right-sizing is not an option it is now a requirement. many VCs, partners, grants & salary recipients will maintain backwards-looking assumptions about the value of their work. as a result, capital & talent flight is inevitable because opportunity cost. if you think we're at the bottom, haha there's a sinkhole underneath us baby - it took cisco 25 years, microsoft 15 years, amazon 9 years & apple 5 years to return to peak dot-com bubble valuations. we should anticipate similar for most, some will never return and a select few will grow beyond crypto-bubble dreams! this isn't a price prediction - it's a reality check on how we should view timelines of various assets & efforts, so we can manage expectations effectively it's like a big storm came through our garden and washed away the beautiful flowers we grew - but there is still significant value in the hearty soil, the nutrients, the fortified roots - the best thing we can do now is nurture the substrate that survived, water the remaining buds & plant new seeds - these will be storm-resistant, having learned from mistakes past crypto isn't dead, it's just rerating to the real world, buckle up

> walk around your city catching pokémon > game asks you to scan a fountain. sure why not > 30 billion scans later > niantic owns a more detailed map than any government > sells game for $3.5B > spins off a spatial AI company > your pokéwalk is now classified infrastructure > delivery robots now navigate using your walks > you were never the player. you were the product.

I feel like at every level we've implicitly made this decision that running a node is this oh so scary devops task that it is ok to leave to professionals. IT IS NOT. We need to reverse this. Running your own Ethereum infrastructure should be the basic right of every individual and household. "The hardware requirement is high, therefore it's okay for the devops skill and time requirements to also be high" is not an excuse. Even people who can afford high-end hardware, dedicated staking boxes, etc often do not have a lot of free time. Nodes should be easy.

Why don’t they just tokenize the oil in the Middle East and transport it across permissionless financial rails, thereby avoiding the Strait of Hormuz altogether

Let me get this straight. There are people, right now, in America, protesting the death of a man who killed protestors for protesting.

So let me get this straight. You support the Khamanei regime that killed 38,000+ protesters and maimed hundreds of thousands more. A regime that has repeatedly called for Death to America and has killed thousands of our servicemen and citizens. One that has taken away women’s rights and freedoms for the Iranian people. And then you call our efforts to destroy the evildoers a catastrophic escalation. You also support those who attack our police force. You take the side of the criminals rather than the victims of violent actors in our city. How is it that you can’t differentiate between good and evil? Why is this so hard for you?
Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani@NYCMayor

Today’s military strikes on Iran — carried out by the United States and Israel — mark a catastrophic escalation in an illegal war of aggression. Bombing cities. Killing civilians. Opening a new theater of war.  Americans do not want this. They do not want another war in pursuit of regime change. They want relief from the affordability crisis. They want peace. I am focused on making sure that every New Yorker is safe. I have been in contact with our Police Commissioner and emergency management officials. We are taking proactive steps, including increasing coordination across agencies and enhancing patrols of sensitive locations out of an abundance of caution. Additionally, I want to speak directly to Iranian New Yorkers: you are part of the fabric of this city — you are our neighbors, small business owners, students, artists, workers, and community leaders. You will be safe here.
