It's National Work Zone Awareness Week! 🚧 When utility crews are working along roadways to restore essential services, they’re often just feet from passing traffic. Reflective vests, bright equipment and cones help make crews visible, but your actions behind the wheel matter too.
The Move Over law in Kansas and Missouri requires motorists to:
• Change to the lane farthest away from stationary vehicles with flashing lights on four‑lane roads or highways.
• Slow down and proceed with caution on two‑lane roads when passing these vehicles.
Taking an extra moment to move over or slow down helps protect the crews working in your communities.

It’s frustrating to see lights on down the street when your house is still dark.
But that usually doesn’t mean you got skipped. Share this with someone who’s wondered why the house next door has power first. #PowerRestoration #OutageMap #Reliability #EnergyEducation

One of the most frustrating moments: power comes back… then it goes out again.
That doesn’t mean the repair failed. Share this with someone who’s said, “Wait, why did my power go out again?” #PowerRestoration #OutageMap #Reliability #EnergyEducation

Severe storms moved through our service area last night, bringing tornadoes, large hail and heavy rain to parts of our service area.
Evergy crews worked through the night in challenging, muddy conditions and were able to quickly restore power to the vast majority of customers impacted by the storms. While most customers are back on, there are still areas with significant damage where restoration will take more time.
The most severe impact occurred in Hillsdale, Kansas, which took a direct hit from a tornado. Paola, Ottawa, Spring Hill and Louisburg also experienced significant storm damage. As crews began restoring power overnight, teams also patrolled areas of major damage and brought in poles and equipment so restoration work could continue today.
In addition to our local teams, crews are coming to assist from the Kansas City metro and rural areas to the east, as well as Emporia, Eureka, Lawrence, Pittsburg and Fort Scott. Additional crews are supporting remaining outages elsewhere. Muddy conditions due to heavy rainfall makes access to some areas challenging, but crews are focused on restoring power safely.
If you see a downed power line, stay at least 30 feet away and assume it is energized. Call 911 immediately, then contact Evergy.
You can report an outage and view the outage map by downloading the Evergy mobile app:

Kansas Metro, Missouri Metro, Missouri West: 888‑544‑4852
Thank you to our Evergy crews working through difficult conditions, and thank you to our customers for your patience. 💚💙

Storm prep doesn’t have to take an hour. Ten minutes of prep can make an outage a lot less stressful. Share this with someone who always waits too long to prep. #fyp #SevereWeatherAwareness #Preparedness

After exploring the scale and craftsmanship of crew work, Holly’s linework also captures what happens in between.
Some of the most meaningful parts of line work happen between the big moments — waiting for the next task, eating lunch in the cab or standing back before the work begins.
Linework art inspired by crew life reflects those quieter moments alongside the intensity of the job, honoring the work without staging or exaggeration.
“The work can be messy, strenuous and intense, and a lot of people love that part of it,” Holly said. “But there’s also a lot of quiet in between, and that’s worth capturing too.”
Because for the people who do this work, the details matter.

In our first look at Holly’s artwork, we focused on the details that often go unnoticed on the job.
Holly, senior safety coordinator, brings that same field-based perspective to the work our crews do.
Through linework drawings and paintings inspired by real job sites, she focuses on accuracy, composition and documenting the work as it happens — capturing the scale of the job and the details crews know best.
Her approach is observational, grounded in firsthand experience supporting crews across the field.

Storm restoration doesn’t start when the weather arrives — it starts with preparation. This spring, Evergy apprentices took part in a hands‑on mock storm school designed to build the skills and confidence needed to restore power safely and efficiently when customers need us most.
“We purposefully destroy the training yard to give apprentices some of the most common issues we see during storm work, allowing them to run the full restoration process in a controlled environment,” said Ty, lead skills trainer.
Training like this strengthens teamwork, communication and decision‑making under pressure so when real storms happen, our crews are better prepared to respond and help keep service reliable for the communities we serve.
