In February 2025, a draft agreement was reached: €5 million per year plus bonuses, running until 2028. The contract was essentially ready. However, at a certain point Milan slowed down and put everything on standby: the team had missed out on European competitions and needed to recalibrate certain financial figures. The parties then stopped talking, until Chelsea tried to sign him in the summer. The player pushed for the move, but Milan rejected the offer. Later, Allegri and the club convinced him to stay until the end of the year. But a cold distance remains between the sides, who have not resumed contact: everything suggests that Maignan will leave Milan at the end of the season.
