⚖️We held our Civil Legal Aid: From Review To Reform conference in Trinity College Dublin this week in collaboration with @TCDLawSchool. We would like to thank our speakers and attendees for making it a very informative, passionate and interesting conference.

We are delighted participate in the 'Civil Legal Aid: From Review to Reform' conference today. Many thanks to @flacireland and the @TCDLawSchool for the invitation to share our perspective. Our CEO, Aoife Kelly-Desmond will join Prof. Orla Kelleher (@MaynoothLaw), Deirdre Duffy (@foeireland), and Prof. Áine Ryall (@UCC) to discuss environmental justice. Our housing and social welfare solicitor, Mary Heavey will join Christopher Bowes (@flacireland), Kate Heffernan (@MLRCLaw), and Gwendolen Morgan (Registrar to the WRC) to discuss our social welfare appeals work.

In her Keynote Address, Former President of the European Court of Human Rights Síofra O’Leary outlined the strong EU law requirements concerning access to justice and civil legal aid.

In his remarks the Chief Justice highlighted that civil legal aid is not treated or resourced like a vital social service such as health or social welfare.

The FLAC Annual Justice Lecture was delivered by Prof. Colm Ó Cinnéide alongside a reading by Stephen Rea of excerpts from Daniel O’Connell’s speeches. "Who Values the People's Rights?" Holding Fast to Justice, Rule of Law and Human Rights' was the title of this year's lecture.
