@only_shans_ @herecomsthesan i think it was less about women not having a voice and more about highlighting the extent of patriarchal family structure in korean culture and the detrimental effects of that patriarchal culture on individual people
English

@fatalsilk @herecomsthesan idk i feel like if its a social commentary on misogyny then its guilty of perpetrating it as well. they made her character a symbol rather than a person. if its talking about women not having a voice thats exactly what it did
English

@only_shans_ @herecomsthesan i admit im biased cause disturbing stuff is a positive for me. as for lack of depth, i thought it was a social commentary on misogyny/domestic/work pressure/family culture in modern korean life, shining a light on stuff that happens irl prob more commonly than you’d think
English

@fatalsilk @herecomsthesan it’s so static, it feels empty of a story. i hate that you never get to see the main character as a real person. it felt like it was trying to be disturbing to be edgy like all of this is happening for the aesthetic not to mean something. like they replace all depth and meaning
English

@only_shans_ @herecomsthesan marrying an equally abusive husband, and eventually all the unprocessed lifetime abuse plus continuing abuse piled up too much resulting in the mental break she had in the story, which you don’t really understand until the sisters pov lays it all out. i thought that was good
English

@only_shans_ @herecomsthesan i can see that, i also wished we saw yeonghyes pov at some point, but what blew my mind was having her sisters pov in the last part, i finally understood shes the only sibling who didn’t have an outlet to process her dads abuse like her sis and brother did, so she ended up

@only_shans_ @herecomsthesan ahh now i feel ashamed for liking it, what did you dislike about it? i thought it was a very interesting book.

@herecomsthesan THE VEGETARIAN IS THE WORST BOOK IVE EVER READ AND SOMEHOW THEYVE GIVEN IT A NOBEL PRIZE
English

@herecomsthesan @only_shans_ wait why was it bad? i really liked it, should i not have liked it
English

@qntm I have a pristine copy of the original print run ("COLLECTOR'S EDITION"!) that I am willing to sell for an obscene price if anyone is interested

@LUMIEREBELGE the blood (human) mixing in with the rust (the urban life) and the ugliness (grey/black) at the edges where they meet. some of the ugliness is now an inseparable part of the blood but its fading so perhaps... it might not be too late
