Fields in Trust 💚

It was fantastic to be in Parliament last night with our President Jill Scott MBE to discuss the huge importance of protecting parks, playing fields and green spaces for local communities and the threats posed by the Government’s proposed planning reforms.

Great to meet with @FieldsInTrust and @JillScottJS8 to review the Liverpool Fields In Trust initiative first launched in 2018 by the late Chrissie Byrne, myself & Save Calderstone Park Campaigners. But let’s be clear - progress on placing 100 of our city’s precious green spaces into trust for public use in perpetuity has been far too slow. It’s now crucial that @lpoolcouncil steps up, honours its commitments and delivers on the promises made to campaigners, to @FieldsInTrust, and to the public, myself and the much-missed Chrissie. Growing up my weekends were spent playing football or rugby. But for current and future generations to enjoy sport we must protect our pitches. That’s why I am backing @FieldsInTrust and various sporting bodies in opposing the Government’s plans to weaken @Sport_England powers

⚽ Jill’s football career began on a local pitch in Sunderland, and ultimately led to her representing her country, winning the Euros, and inspiring a generation of Lionesses, so this cause is incredibly personal to her.
