There's nothing quite like writing on paper, there's nothing quite like holding a book, smelling it, passing its pages. However, not being able to read when the light is off. Not being able to read while walking or easily take out the book to read in a 5 mins wait. Heartbreakin.

I am actually learning quite a lot from my pleasure reading and having writing notes both in my commonplace book and in the margins of the book. Reading this in hardback has reminded me of the joys and tribulations of physical books.

Hello everybody! I haven't disappeared, just took a couple of days off from public record. Over the last 2 days I have progressed with reading and note taking of The Science of Self-Learning and I dedicated quite a lot of time to reading for pleasure: Babel by R.F. Kuang

I guess I'm sharing all this to show that, even when you teach about how to study, and even when you've been learning and studying for a long time over a variety of disciplines, you can still struggle at any point in the process. That's the point though. Learning challenges us.

Separating the learning process in this way when you've been practicing it in a complexed, quick manner for a long time can take a lot of will power. Plus, it takes a lot more time than people think, and definitely a lot more time than they wish it would take.

Does anyone else read in an ADHD sort of way: when sometimes you can't get through a lot of reading because every sentence connects to something else, reminds you of something, gives you an idea?!

However, I'm still going through more than one of the subjects a day. The variety keeps my brain really entertained and motivated!

Today I am trying to concentrate on reading. I am intending to do as much active reading as my brain is able to take. I will be highlighting. I will be making notes. I will be having a *conversation* with the text.

29/03/24: Listening to the Bible while I was doing dishes and cleaning the flat. I was surprised to learn that the stone tablets of the 10 commandments that were written by God were never actually seen by anyone because he broke them in a rage. Moses had to carve them again.

Also, over lunch I was able to continue reading The Science of Self-Learning and I have reached that point in which I need to decide how I'm going make notes on this book. This is always difficult for me, since I have a bit of a hoarder mentality with information.

28/03/24: Another day, another bout of learning and taking steps to becoming a better version of myself. Today has started with helping out a friend with a job application so I have not had a chance yet to get back into my studies.

But I would say that Evernote, despite not being perfect, has been the one so far that is flexible enough for me. It copes very easily with the constant changes in organisation and focus I do, so that I don't have to build my system from scratch every time I review it.

I have spent the rest of the morning getting organised. I currently take notes and do planning on Evernote and it has been working for me for just over a year now.
