Jamaica’s 100m Olympic medalist Megan Simmons has recently switched camps and is now training with the reigning Olympic champion Masai Russell and the 60m world record holder Devynne Charlton 🔥 We discussed how the transition has been for Simmons 👇

Rori asked me a great question earlier and the more I thought about the more I realized it can be answered a million different ways, no time to litigate the fairness of track contracts (especially since they aren’t public) but what we can do is look around the track world and compare Gout’s deal to others in similar position of their careers 1/
RoriDunk@FitzDunk

@KyleAnthonie @KadeemBarrett99 Educate me. You said 500k a year is peanuts, what are you comparing it to? What comparable market you looked at to make that claim. Be detailed with the numbers, would love to cover it myself

@KyleAnthonie I hope you know why you can’t make that comparison, it’s so far from comparable it actually I just said WA made 100m in its best year while others make billions

@KyleAnthonie “that is peanuts by modern pro sports standards” is misinformation because the contracts you compared it to was completely off as I pointed out early lol instead of seeing the facts your saying im defending this and your for the athletes

@FitzDunk They made $40 million that year, other sports have individual athletes making more than that in a given season, you can’t seriously believe that’s comparatively a big figure?

Difference I could care less about being right, I want to save the sport… I would never seriously bring the argument without actually getting the actual contract figures, you just asked me to bring some details, had no idea it was from a place of bad faith would have never wasted precious time if I knew, b/c YOU could literally follow up on the US athlete contract but on here trying to win arguments while I only care about the actual athletes

@KyleAnthonie I’ve done a lot of pieces on pay transparency, I’m with you on that! But you can’t say something isn’t a good deal without all the info. I talk to people so I know the deals that aren’t public but saying Gout’s deal ain’t good is premature but from where I’m sitting incorrect
RoriDunk@FitzDunk

We’ve seen transparency on the rise in Track & Field with meets being open about how much they will pay But will this spill into shoe contracts being more public so athletes can know their true value against their peers? World indoor champion Jereem Richards chimes in👇

I mean I’m definitely not going back and forth but track contracts not being public is one of the biggest tools they use to keep athletes from reaching their potential. Don’t you have a track podcast you should invite the lad on and ask if he wouldn’t mind breaking down the deal..

@jollyin876 Exactly, If this was an NIL people would say what a great deal to be in college, meanwhile he gets this amount and still will attend school. There’s no track and field NIL paying this btw

Not only that Fitz, the prime of his career probably statrs just after this contract ends. The person making the come t clearly doesnt know how poorly track athletes are paid. Plus he hasnt won a medal of any sort yet (yeh I know he'll trigger his bonuses multiple times too)

@KyleAnthonie Sam’s market isn’t a track and field market, he’s an influencer market. Just look at how much followers he has compared to Gout despite their achievements. Once again an off comparison, you simple don’t understand the markets and shouldn’t make strong assertions

Now let’s pivot to NIL in the NCAA (which by definition is amateur competition), 2 years ago then University of Texas athlete (Jumper) Sam Hurley was reported to have a US$1M NIL annual evaluation, while calculating NIL true earnings get very tricky (as well as it composing of several deals and not just one) the fact remains that a non-pro young athlete still commands deals comparatively to a pro-athlete (Gout Gout) who constantly gets comparisons Usain Bolt, the greatest athlete the sport has ever seen 3/ forbes.com/sites/djsiddiq…

@KyleAnthonie Wildly off comparison, this is purely speculation from you with not much background on the finances of the sport. Did you know the World Athletics biggest year was $100m? That’s peanut compared to these other sports

All in all there’s a million different angles we could go through this and if Gout is happy w/ the contract who are strangers on the internet to find fault with it. I’m just a track fan that’s saddened by what they perceive as signs of the impending doom of the sport if changes aren’t made b/c as Ive shown before it’s one of the few sports that somehow hasn’t managed to grow through the social media era… 5/ @FitzDunk
Kyle@KyleAnthonie

@mikealelliott @kemal_e_forde Here’s a graph from from Sportsvalue that illustrates my point, as you can see a Sport league that global track should at least be able to emulate, The MLS (American Soccer) has grown 200% yet everyone wants to make excuses for WA poor decisions sportsvalue.com.br/en/the-sports-…

@KyleAnthonie Your comparisons are completely off. Cooper’s contract say Multi year deal “likely” worth 7-figures. The whole contract not PER year! Your bolt comparison? Incomplete, how many years did bolt get 1.5m? You spoke prematurely and these prove it

Here we have Cooper Lutkenhaus, another teenage track phenom who was reported to have signed a seven-figure USD annual contract w/ Nike and although we don’t know the exact figure (not public in track), that would put it at MINIMUM double Gout’s Adidas contract (US$1M to US$500k) 2/ citiusmag.com/articles/coope…
