The City of Clewiston annually hosts the Clewiston Sugar Festival, which traces its roots back to the original end-of-harvest celebrations in the 1930s. Today, the festival welcomes nearly 25,000 people & features entertainment such as a classic car show, an antique tractor display, access to the Sugar Express steam locomotive, a kids’ carnival, gator wrestling & wildlife shows, a local community stage, free concerts, & more all weekend long! #FLPublicPower #PublicPower #DYK

The winners of the 25th annual Florida Lineman Competition were announced at an Awards Banquet following the Competition last night. Competitors took on various challenges such as replacing fuses and insulators, changing out fiberglass guy links, relocating cross arms, transferring equipment from pole to pole, and completing a simulation of rescuing an injured lineworker. The results of the 2026 Florida Lineman Competition are in! The 2026 Overall Journeyman Team Winners’ Cup was presented to Lance Rivenbark, Jordan Reddick and Jason Smith of the @CityofTLH. Winning the Overall Apprentice Award was Dalton Gowdy from the City of Tallahassee. This year, 26 journeyman teams (totaling 84 journeyman lineworkers), 72 apprentices, and 58 judges from 13 utilities participated in the Competition. The Competition is where the #FLPublicPower community can celebrate their family members & friends, honoring those who support our lineworkers for keeping our lights on. Hats off to the line wives, the mini-me linemen, the parents, & everyone else who love & support our lineworkers.

The Journeyman teams have been working diligently through four additional events this morning. They are expected to demonstrate completing the following tasks: a 12kV single phase pole transfer, change out a crossarm, a ‘triple threat’ insulator replacement, and replace a 69-kV angle bell. #FLPublicPower #PublicPower

Apprentices continued their events throughout the morning at the Florida Lineman Competition. This year they are expected to demonstrate completing the following tasks: replace a Jack Jumper fuse, change out a 78” fiberglass guy link, & relocate a cross arm. #FLPublicPower

Each competitor completes a version of a Hurtman Rescue, where a hanging mannequin simulates an injured lineworker in need of swift rescue by the competitors. This event is an essential safety skill for all lineworkers to know & routinely practice. #FLPublicPower #PublicPower

Our 1st event focuses on #MutualAid, safety & teamwork in an event that simulates work done in a post-storm power restoration situation. Competitors were teamed up with lineworkers from other utilities for this event to truly replicate a real-world experience. #FLPublicPower
