Remember when Jim Chalmers promised Labor wouldn’t touch negative gearing or the CGT discount? In this October 2024 interview he ruled it out, saying the focus was on building more homes, not changing tax rules for investors. Now, just weeks from the May 12 Budget, he’s openly eyeing exactly those changes to fix “intergenerational unfairness”, while hunting big NDIS savings. Albanese once said “my word is my bond.” Many voters are wondering if that still means anything. Is this responsible budget repair or another broken promise that hits family wealth and housing investment? Australia deserves straight answers before the Budget drops. What do you think?
