@frazettagirls As a young teen my best friend and I could never get over Urlik Skarsol's name, we'd always call him Urlik's Asshole

Little fun fact about this one that a lot of people don’t realize. The figure in this painting actually isn’t a character called “Silver Warrior.”
Frank painted it in 1972 for Michael Moorcock’s novel The Silver Warriors (the U.S. title of Phoenix in Obsidian). The warrior charging across the ice behind the sled of polar bears is Count Urlik Skarsol, one of Moorcock’s incarnations of the Eternal Champion, the same mythic cycle that produced characters like Elric.
But like a lot of Frazetta images… the painting kind of escaped the story. Over time the artwork itself became known simply as “Silver Warrior.” And by the late 70s and especially through the 1980s custom van era, this image was everywhere. Airbrushed onto vans, glowing down the side panels at car shows and drive-ins. It became one of the fantasy images people requested the most. Which makes sense. Just look at it! Frank’s magic was in full force with this painting.
