@sorayatokyo Xenogears and Xenosaga primed me for appreciation of frankly everything that school couldn't: ancient history, religion and myth, space sciences, earth sciences, obscure psychology, etc.
It might seem absurd to credit video games and not "true" literature for this, but...I do! 😄

@PrognosisNEGTV It's like night and day. I'm leveling three jobs at once before I dive into most story content, at about 35 each. This would have taken months in 2004. Nowadays it took approximately a single weekend.
This is more fun than I ever thought possible in FFXI.

@ag_gobby I need fantasy, live or animated, to feel like a dream.
Many of the works from this era succeed in that, from Lodoss to Last Unicorn to Neverending Story and so on. I feel we've lost that dreamlike element. They're either gameified or wallowing in false-historical lurid grimdark.

I 100% agree with this. I feel like epic fantasy- truly epic fantasy, without the gamified elements- is mostly missing in anime, and there’s much potential.
I hope there’s some demand for it, because the isekai element reduces full immersion, for me at least.

There are too many fantasy isekai and not enough pure fantasy sword and sorcery anime like Record of Lodoss War. Let a fantasy world live and breathe and stand on its own merit. Don't use an isekaied protagonist as a crutch to immerse viewers. Don't say the world is a video game.

@FattiestFat @RavenousGhoulNH Even though it's blatantly this, the setting is treated as an actual setting and not a game world. No one says outright that Parn got first on initiative or that Woodchuck failed his saving throw.

@RavenousGhoulNH Funny thing about Record of Lodoss War is that the entire thing was a transcribed tabletop RPG sessions played by various sci fi & fantasy authors in Japan. Even funnier that the game system used was DnD. Said transcribed game sessions were released as Novels.
