Jesús Navas: what a career. He refused his first ever Spain youth-team call-up. Too shy and homesick, Spain had to promise him that Sergio Ramos would be his room-mate to look after him. When his team-mate Lamine Yamal was born, Navas had already won 5 trophies with Sevilla.

Sevilla sacked Diego Alonso immediately after losing to Getafe. Alonso won 0 of his 12 matches in charge across La Liga and the Champions League. Sevilla are now searching for their 5th (!) permanent manager since the start of last season. theathletic.com/live-blogs/pre…

Joaquín is retiring. What a career. What a character. Nobody is quite like him. The emblem of Real Betis who may become club president. But beyond the jokes and charisma, he is an ultra-professional, with one more record in his sights ✍️ @MirrorFootball mirror.co.uk/sport/football…

Joaquín needs to appear in 7 of the final 9 La Liga matches for Betis this season to surpass the long-standing record of Andoni Zubizarreta for most appearances ever in Spain's top flight (even more remarkable as Joaquín played 3 seasons outside La Liga - including 2 in Serie A).

Sevilla have won 29 of their last 31 Europa League knockout tie progressions, including finals. Incredibly, they had 31 different opponents. Slavia Prague and West Ham the only sides to stop them. Run started with victory over Mladost Podgorica in August 2013.

🚨 Our new series, directed by @ElMengem, Once In a Lifetime, is live! First up, Real Betis, arguably Spain’s most eccentric fanbase whose incredible passion in the stands hasn't been matched on the pitch. So when they made the Copa De Rey final in April, we had to be there!

10,000s of Rangers fans set to descend upon Seville for Europa League final. As Celtic did in 2003. But there are many more Scottish links with the Andalusian capital and Rangers playing the final in Sevilla's Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán stadium is particularly fitting (short thread)

15 years ago today: Sevilla win their first ever UEFA Cup/Europa League title, beating Middlesbrough 4-0. Enzo Maresca was named Man of the Match and he donated his €10k prize money to Seville's San Juan de Dios hospital.

Sevilla have now qualified for European football in 16 of the past 17 seasons. For context, that is more than Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid, Inter, Milan, Juventus.

Very sad news as former Betis and Hungary forward Attila Ladinsky has passed away. He boasted he ‘drank 45 beers’ after scoring the winning penalty as Betis beat Sevilla 1-0 in 1976. “It was with Sevilla players too,” he insisted.

14 years since Antonio Puerta's most iconic moment - a magnificent match-winning strike against Schalke in the 2006 UEFA Cup semi-final. The goal that began the golden decade for Sevilla, 14 months before Puerta died.
