Irish American Baseball Society
The Irish American Baseball Society is a US-based nonprofit dedicated to growing youth baseball in Ireland and honoring the deep Irish roots of America's pastime — connecting a community of players, coaches, and fans with a shared love of baseball and Ireland. ☘️⚾❤️ We’re proud of our partnerships with the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Society for American Baseball Research, and grateful for the continued support from the Government of Ireland. With the help of our partners and members, we’re working to advance our Three Big Goals strategy: ⚾ - Grow youth baseball in Ireland ☘️ - Help Ireland reach the World Baseball Classic 🇮🇪 - Bring an MLB game to Ireland Here are the programs and projects that are making it all happen: IRISH YOUTH BASEBALL: Introducing the game to over 3,000 children each year. TEAM IRELAND BASEBALL: An elite youth baseball program uniting Irish citizens and players of Irish descent to represent their shared heritage on the baseball diamond. IRISH AMERICAN BASEBALL HALL OF FAME: Honoring the lasting contributions of Irish Americans to the game. IRISH WOLFHOUNDS BASEBALL CLUB: A team of Irish and Irish-American players with college, pro, and MLB experience competing together to show the world that Ireland has the talent to reach the World Baseball Classic. IRISH HERITAGE AWARDS: Recognizing top Irish-American student-athletes in baseball and softball. Join us in celebrating Irish Baseball and join the Irish Baseball Movement! 🇮🇪⚾ #Irish #IrishBaseball #Ireland #IrelandBaseball

Merry Christmas! Hall of Famer James Francis "Pud" Galvin was born in St. Louis on Christmas Day in 1856. Galvin was the son of Martin and Bridget (McTigue) Galvin, who hailed from Clare and Mayo, respectively. He grew up in a St. Louis neighborhood known as the "Kerry Patch!" ☘️⚾️ Galvin stood only 5 feet 8 inches tall, and his hands weren’t big enough to master a curveball. However, he made up for his lack of size with strength and dedication to his craft. It wasn’t long before James Francis Galvin earned his nickname, “Pud,” because of his ability to turn batters into “pudding.” While pitching for the St. Louis Red Stockings in 1876, Galvin threw the first perfect game in the history of organized baseball. Remarkably, the term “perfect game” had not yet been coined and wasn’t used to describe his performance at the time. Even more impressive, this historic feat came on the heels of a no-hitter he had thrown earlier that same day! In his first full major league season, Pud Galvin posted an impressive 37-27 record with a 2.28 ERA across an astounding 593 innings pitched. On August 20, 1880, Galvin became the first pitcher in baseball history to throw a no-hitter on the road. Then, in 1883, he started 75 games, completed 72 of them, and posted a 2.72 ERA. Oh, and he won 46 games that season! Widely regarded as the best fielding pitcher of his generation, Galvin's legendary pickoff move added to his mystique. He famously escaped a bases-loaded jam by picking off the runner at first base, then third, and finally second base in rapid succession. In 1888, Pud Galvin achieved another milestone, becoming baseball’s first 300-game winner. His incredible career earned him a well-deserved place in the Baseball Hall of Fame, where he was enshrined in 1965. #Christmas #IrishBaseball #baseballhistory #baseballbirthdays #HOF

This was a disgrace. How was this allowed to happen? How did these so called “protesters” know ICE would be at that location at that exact time? Why were anarchists allowed to throw materials at law enforcement and shut down streets without an immediate, forceful response? Why was the NYPD presence so limited and ineffective from the start?   This is not protest, it is chaos. I fully support the men and women of the NYPD and all law enforcement who showed up and did their jobs. What I do not support is leadership at all levels, including elected officials, putting our officers in harm’s way to play politics. These reckless decisions are going to lead to a disaster if they don’t change. New Yorkers deserve answers and real accountability.

Sergeants Benevolent Association
💙 Today we remember Sergeant Jacqueline C. Schaefer on the 14th anniversary of her passing. Sgt. Schaefer passed on December 2, 2011, after serving twenty years with the NYPD, including five years as a sergeant. She brought dedication and steady professionalism to the Quality Assurance Division, and her service as a World Trade Center recovery responder remains a lasting testament to her commitment to this city. 👮‍♀️ 🫡 Her service lives on in the pride of our ranks and in the memory of those who served alongside her. #NeverForget #FidelisAdMortem

There has been a spike in fatal fires in the last few weeks. Each of those tragic deaths involved a senior citizen. We urge you to make an escape plan. As you spend time with family this holiday season, talk to your loved ones and go through the plan together. Make sure they know two ways out of every room, and keep pathways free of clutter. Check in on those who need extra support. Make sure they’re using electrical devices safely — don’t overload outlets or use loose or frayed wires. Remember: extension cords should only be used temporarily, and never for heavy appliances like space heaters or microwaves. Being fire-safe means thinking ahead. It means making small choices every day to protect the people you love most. These steps save lives — and together, we can prevent the next tragedy. For a full list of winter safety tips, visit FDNYSmart.org.

Joe McEwing shares the incredible story of his major league debut — stepping into the batter’s box immediately after Mark McGwire broke the National League home run record. As McGwire rounded third to a standing ovation in Miami, Tony LaRussa told Joe, “Grab a bat, you’re hitting for Jordan!” Hear Joe tell the story and find out how he made out! This clip is from a Q&A with members of the Irish American Baseball Society.
