🔸Protocol Growth vs. Token Growth - Case study with Unibot Expanding on my tweet from yesterday on protocol growth vs. token growth, let's talk about the popular telegram bot: Unibot It launched one year ago in May 2023. In two months after launch, it did a 16x going from $12 to $200. It's revenue sharing mechanism to token holders, buy/sell tax, and discount on swap and snipe fee for token holders was pretty novel when it launched. Combined with a new promising sector (Telegram bots), that resulted on a huge traction shortly after launch. Real yield was a hot topic at the time and unibot seemed to fit well to it. Now 2 months after launch, the token reached its ATH and since then, it has been in a downtrend (despite good market conditions in the last months). Why is that? is nobody using it anymore? In the last 24h, it has done $3m in volume and in the last 7 days, it has generated more than $100k in fees so clearly it's still being used. (credits to @whale_hunter_) But as I mentioned yesterday, absolute numbers don't matter much. What is important is to have an uptrend in key metrics. We can see from on-chain data that Unibot is not having any uptrend in any metric (fees, volume, users) since long time. The conclusion here is that for a narrative trader, it doesn't make sense to hold the $UNIBOT token. Should also be said that other Telegram bots related tokens have not performed well in the last months neither. tldr is many protocols have a baseline of revenue, users, tvl and community. Big or small. If there is no strong uptrend on those metrics, the price of the token is unlikely to go higher.
