It’s winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere & 20th Dec is when #thedarkisrising opens. The longest night. Susan Cooper’s novel follows Will, a boy about to turn 11. He should be excited, its Christmas too. But there’s something deeply wrong in the world. 👂 @BBCSounds

Wearing headphones in a theatre is brilliant. Actors so often don’t project and you can’t hear properly. See #Macbeth @HaroldPinterTheatre with David Tennant & Cush Jumbo, fine performances & a unique experience. You can hear perfectly, it’s an immersive experience.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I was completely blown away by the David Tennant Sensuround Macbeth at the Pinter Theatre. This is Shakespeare played intimate as the entire audience listen along on headphones (stunning sound design by Gareth Fry) supplied at their seats. From the ghostly witches, heard around the theatre as spectral voices, never seen - the opening moments reminded me of the IMAX pre-screening test showing off the many speakers around the auditorium - this production held me in a vice-tight grip and perched on the edge of my seat. Listening on headphonesn also allows Tennant - a chillingly single-minded Macbeth - and Cush Jumbo to talk in low conspiratorial tones, heightening the complicity between the guilty couple. Always a short play in Shakespeare's cannon, this production comes in at a pacy 1 hour 50 mins as without any complicated scene changes, thrilling set piece after thrilling set piece leads to the horrifying conclusion. Highly recommended
