It is with no small amount of pride that I can announce we are at capacity and won't be taking on any new cafe customers. We've surpassed any aspirations I had and I'm very grateful.
We're a coffee company. Hand on heart we can say we've brought coffees to Ireland from some of the world's best producers. The business however was always meant to be about more than selling coffee for profit.
All of our full time staff are well paid, have pensions, get bonuses and also share in 1% of all we earn.
All of our part timers earn in excess of the living wage.
We give 1% off all we earn to @womens_aid .
We'll fund a 4th bridge at the asopep co-op in Colombia this year.
We'll give over €30,000 of coffee between 3 local hospitals this year.
We've committed to four small local projects in 2024 and will give €2,500 to each.
All of this breaks down to us giving 3.5% of all we earn before the business makes a cent. I believe we're the only company in Ireland run like this. It's viable.
My aim now is not to sell more coffee but to try to make people aware of our business model. It's not possible for most small businesses to run as we do but it's absolutely achievable for many medium to large ones.
More profit for lower pay seems the mantra for many big businesses and to a degree as a society we've accepted it. We're a real life example that shows it doesn't have to be like this.
We do however need your help to spread our message. This might be by buying our coffee or telling people about how we're run which doesn't cost anything but maybe (just maybe), will give our idea momentum and a medium to large size business might copy us. A good story when true can be a powerful conduit for change. Here's to hoping and thanks to all who have supported us.
