NEW: Democracy isn’t just about voting for elected officials, it’s about real power for working people. It must extend beyond electoral maps and the voting booth and into our workplaces.

It’s no secret that working class men are struggling. I spoke with Jimmy Williams, @GoIUPAT union president and fourth-generation Philly construction worker, about how the labor movement can help. playboy.com/read/politics/…

"The construction industry’s in the top three for death by suicide, and has struggled with the opioid crisis in this country too. It’s not talked about enough. We lost a member just last week who took their own life, 36 years old, who was a bridge painter in Pittsburgh. It’s all because that American dream isn’t there."

Our General President @Jimmy_iupat spoke to @GrimKim for @Playboy about the problems plaguing working-class men in America.

Congratulations to Local 479, District Council 57 member Bruce Turner on 50 years as an IUPAT member!
Brother Turner joined Local 479 in 1976 and has worked in the Allegheny County Sign Shop since 2018. Bruce has served on his local’s executive board and always comes to work with a smile on his face. We appreciate you, Bruce!

For drywall finishing apprentice Joel Hernandez of Local 1156, District Council 58, the most important aspect of his training has been learning how to keep himself and his co-workers safe.
That’s one of the biggest differences between non-union and union work, and we’re proud to maintain high safety standards that ensure our members get home to their families each day.

District Council 14 recently had its first Stewards Meeting of the year! This meeting was conducted in both English and Spanish, ensuring all members have access to the tools and information needed to succeed.
Nearly 40 members participated in this important training, taking the initiative to strengthen their knowledge and leadership on the jobsite. When our stewards are educated, our membership is empowered—and a stronger membership builds a stronger union. This is what Building Union Power looks like.
