The foundation of this country wasn’t built by CEOs or laid by hedge fund managers. It was built by union workers. Today, more than ever, we need you in this fight.

A stronger trades workforce will include more women, not fewer. Access matters. Support matters. Opportunity matters. The future of apprenticeships gets better when more women can see a real path in, get trained well, and build lasting careers. #WomenInTrades #Apprenticeship #SkilledTrades

Our trades may be predominantly male, but if you are determined and driven, doors will open for you. We welcome all women who are ready to work into our union, and we will continue to strive to be an organization where all feel welcome and supported.

If you’re like our General Vice President Charlie Meadows and you’re sick of this administration’s attack on collective bargaining rights, join us at a No Kings protest on March 28th!

Our members are always using their skills to benefit those who need them. Marvin Lively and Enrique Hernandez of Local 48, District Council 35, volunteered with Veterans, Inc. to improve their historic Armory.

Happy 139th Anniversary to our mighty union! Over the last 139 years, our union has fought gigantic battles, won huge victories, and organized hundreds of thousands of workers into our crafts. Together, through the power of our solidarity, we can do anything. Here’s to 139 more of the IUPAT!

Congratulations to Mark Miller of Local 91, District Council 53, on five years of service! Mark started out painting before finishing his career in drywall finishing, before joining the union. After being laid off, he found out he was still eligible to join the union, something he says he wishes he had done much earlier. Even though he spent five years as a union member, that time made a real difference. He enjoyed working on larger projects, being part of a crew, and the camaraderie that comes with union jobs. Most importantly, those five years significantly prepared him for retirement. Along with Social Security, his union benefits and annuity provided added financial stability and helped him get by comfortably. His message to younger members is clear: stick with the union and stay with it. The benefits, steady work, and retirement security are worth it.

District Council 17’s Servicing Representative Jason visited the Centre for Newcomers in Calgary to share a bit about the union and trades we cover. Exposing this group of immigrants to the different options and resources available, regardless of whether they decide to join our trades, is so valuable for spreading the importance of a union. Thank you to the Centre for Newcomers for having us, and we are looking forward to continuing our collaboration!

Happy National Equal Pay Day! Collective bargaining agreements help end racial and gender wage gaps by leveling the playing field for all workers and ensuring wages and raises are based on time served. Live better by working union!

District Council 16 is Building Union Power! Across Northern California and Nevada, DC 16 officers, staff, delegates, and activists are getting trained on the history of our union and the labor movement, and where we go from here. General President Jimmy Williams Jr., along with other International officers and staff, are traveling around DC 16's jurisdiction this week. If you see them at a union hall or a job site, bring your thoughts and questions!
