1) COVID is not going away. But thanks mostly to vaccines, population immunity and antiviral treatments, it is no longer the acute threat to public health it once was, though I’m sensitive to those who are CEV, who have understandable concerns.

Finally, what we've been waiting for: age-controlled data on Omicron severity, courtesy SA health ministry. Across all ages, deaths among hospitalized pts are 2/3 lower in Omicron wave. If more mild cases are admitted, this # goes down, but doesn't seem likely that's the reason

Great news from Oxford on B.1.617.2🇮🇳. Slight reduction in neutralisation, in line with 2.9x seen for P.1 🇧🇷. This is only slightly higher than the 2.6x seen for B.1.117🇬🇧. Far less than the 9x seen with B.1.351🇿🇦. Vaccine has proven its real world efficacy against B.1.117🇬🇧 👍

One piece of positive news speaking to leaders of 2 large hospitals in India where most healthcare workers were fully vaccinated: No serious COVID cases among any of the vaccinated healthcare workers during this current crisis. The vaccines are working.
