THREAD: The Benefits of EU Membership Let's remind ourselves of some of the things Brexit took from us when we left the EU. (Not an exhaustive list.) 1. No barriers to trade with the world's largest trading bloc. (Bristol, Berlin, Barcelona all equally accessible.)

It’s that time of year in North Norfolk when huge flocks of migratory Range Rovers arrive from their overwintering grounds in London. At some key nesting sites like Burnham Market they occupy every inch of space, like kittiwakes on a cliff side. Truly a majestic site to behold

This is a stunning clip. Suella Braverman gets tied up like a pretzel trying to explain how an asylum seeker could apply for asylum from the UK despite (according to the Tories) not having any legal route to come to the UK in order to do so... twitter.com/RedCollectiveU…

The UK govt's approach to migration is cruel and inhumane. The absence of safe routes and the criminalisation of people seeking safety force more people to risk their lives at sea – with devastating effects. RT or QT this to tell @SuellaBraverman we need safe routes now!

For those who don't fully understand what is up with the NHS, here is a thread for you that might help. I'm a consultant physician working as a doctor in the NHS in Yorkshire and Wales for 32 years now. I have experienced the NHS at its best (2008) and its worst (2022).

I’ve worked in A&E for 22 years & seen nothing like this before. The NHS is in a critical state. We need urgent action for sake of our staff & patients. @SteveBarclay @RishiSunak we need you to listen to those who know what’s happening. To get them to listen, pls retweet

My book ‘ten things I hate about me’ is out today. It’s about why I think about killing myself, and how I live with wanting to die. I hope you don’t hate it xx

9) Thanks once more for all the interactions. I’ve learned a great deal during the pandemic, which will be remembered as a huge and difficult time in our history. Take care and stay healthy, and I hope you won’t need to see me on here again! Best wishes, Tristan (aka CFC UK)

SHORT THREAD - PLEASE BEAR WITH ME 1) COVID is not going away. But thanks mostly to vaccines, population immunity and antiviral treatments, it is no longer the acute threat to public health it once was, though I’m sensitive to those who are CEV, who have understandable concerns.

Lives continue to be devastated by scam ads yet tech giants are not doing enough to stop them. That's why I stand with @whichuk and ask @NadineDorries to take this opportunity to #StopOnlineScams by including scam ads in the Online Safety Bill.

NEW: first thread of 2022 is an Omicron situation update, starting with a detailed look at UK hospitals, before going international. Let’s start with severity, and the most important chart: Despite steep rises in cases and patients, the number on ventilators has barely risen.

🦠 There’s a lot we don’t yet understand about Omicron, including its impact on immunity and what it means for vaccines. New data will be emerging over the next few wks, which could be misinterpreted w/o context. What we might expect & how to interpret the emerging data? 🧵(1/n)

@ThatRyanChap Huge thanks Ryan. You’ve provided great analysis that’s made complicated stuff clear for lay peeps like me. And helped navigate the pandemic in a hopeful, realistic way. Glad to hear you’re getting back to aviation, although as an Oxford fan, I’ll be giving your PA tweets a miss!

Great news from Oxford on B.1.617.2🇮🇳. Slight reduction in neutralisation, in line with 2.9x seen for P.1 🇧🇷. This is only slightly higher than the 2.6x seen for B.1.117🇬🇧. Far less than the 9x seen with B.1.351🇿🇦. Vaccine has proven its real world efficacy against B.1.117🇬🇧 👍

In India B.1.617.2 is dominant, but report after report finds the vast majority of breakthrough infections do not go on to require medical attention A small number do, but that’s what we’d expect where *millions* have been infected and millions vaccinated twitter.com/VincentRK/stat…
Vincent Rajkumar@VincentRK

One piece of positive news speaking to leaders of 2 large hospitals in India where most healthcare workers were fully vaccinated: No serious COVID cases among any of the vaccinated healthcare workers during this current crisis. The vaccines are working.
