I’ve ordered the flags on state buildings to be lowered today in honor of Officer Don “DJ” Keller, who died in the line of duty. Please join us in praying for his loved ones and in honoring a man who dedicated his life to serving and protecting his community.

Hurricane season begins on June 1, and now is the time to prepare. Team South Carolina is ready, but every family should have a plan in place before a storm threatens our state.

The Governor directs that the flags atop the State Capitol, state buildings, and buildings of the political subdivisions be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Friday, May 15, 2026, in observance of Peace Officers Memorial Day.

I have issued an Executive Order calling the General Assembly back for an extra legislative session to address the state budget and congressional districts beginning Friday, May 15, at 11:00 AM.

Today, we broke ground on the Robert Smalls monument. Robert Smalls helped shape our state and our country through his courage, leadership, and service. This monument will stand as a permanent tribute to a life that changed the course of history.

The General Assembly still has two full days in which to finish its important work, including giving full consideration – as sought by the people – to the important question of redistricting. I urge the General Assembly to finish its work according to the U.S. and South Carolina constitutions and the best interests of the people.

South Carolina mourns the tragic loss of Greenwood Police Department Officer Don “DJ” Keller, who was killed in the line of duty yesterday. Peggy and I ask South Carolinians to join us in praying for his loved ones and the Greenwood community. In honor of his sacrifice, I will order the flags above the Statehouse to be lowered to half-staff on the day of his funeral.

South Carolina is proud to join ‘A Home for Every Child,’ a national initiative to strengthen families and improve outcomes for children in foster care. This is another step forward in ensuring every child has a safe, stable, and loving home.

The U.S. Supreme Court upheld South Carolina’s current congressional map in 2024. In light of the Court’s most recent decision on the Voting Rights Act, it would be appropriate for the General Assembly to ensure that South Carolina’s congressional map still complies with all requirements of federal law and the U.S. Constitution.

It was great to welcome South Carolina students to the Statehouse for STEM Signing Day. These are the careers that will shape our future, and we are proud to see them committing to the fields that will move us forward.

Political violence has no place in America. We are grateful for the bravery and professionalism of the law enforcement officers who stopped last night’s attack at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner before more lives were put at risk. Peggy and I are praying for everyone involved and for the continued safety of those who serve our country.

Congratulations to Aiken County’s Dr. Christie Palladino on being named South Carolina’s Teacher of the Year. Thank you for the difference you make in your students’ lives every day.

I was proud to join the United States Army Reserve as they celebrate 118 years of answering the call to serve. South Carolina is stronger because of our service members and veterans.

This week, we held a ceremonial bill signing at Beidler Forest designating the Prothonotary Warbler as South Carolina’s state migratory bird. We must continue protecting places like this to ensure these birds have the habitats they rely on.

I toured the new Scout Motors Training Center and saw firsthand how South Carolina is preparing our workforce for the future. This facility will equip more people with the skills they need to step into good-paying manufacturing jobs.

A State Forester’s Burning Ban will be in effect for all counties beginning at 7 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, April 17, due to increased wildfire risk from dry conditions and winds

South Carolina marked another historic step forward today as we ceremonially signed our new income tax bill. This puts us on a path to eliminate the income tax and keep more money in the pockets of hardworking South Carolinians.
