.@HMcPhersonNDP’s characterization of the “Global Sumud Flotilla” is replete with bold falsehoods and disinformation. This was not a purely “humanitarian mission” — it was a calculated PR stunt designed to provoke confrontation, undermine Israel’s security, and generate agitprop headlines. Gaza is not cut off from aid; humanitarian assistance enters daily through established channels thanks to Israel’s efforts. What Israel restricts is the unchecked flow of weapons into the hands of Hamas, a listed terrorist organization responsible for ongoing attacks against Israeli civilians. Under international law, Israel is permitted to enforce a naval blockade to prevent arms smuggling. Such blockades are lawful when tied to an active armed conflict and applied consistently. Interdictions in international waters, in this context, are not “abductions”—they are legal enforcement actions aimed at protecting civilian lives. Calling for Canada to sanction Israel while ignoring Hamas terrorism and its use of Gaza’s civilian population as cover is not just unbalanced, it’s dangerous. Canada should stand with its democratic ally’s right to self-defense, not amplify narratives that reward provocation over peace.

If the goal were genuinely to help Gazans, there are established, coordinated humanitarian channels designed to deliver aid safely and effectively, in cooperation with international organizations and on-the-ground partners. This flotilla bypasses those mechanisms entirely. It prioritizes optics over outcomes, attention over impact, and confrontation over coordination. This isn’t a serious humanitarian effort—it’s a calculated PR stunt.
