UPDATE - HPD REOPENS STREETS AND HAWAIʻI STATE CAPITOL AFTER EARLIER EVACUATION; NO THREAT TO THE PUBLIC   The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) and the Department of Law Enforcement (DLE) has reopened all roadways, as well the Hawaiʻi State Capitol following an earlier evacuation. There is no threat to the public, and the planned protest is moving back to the Capitol.   At approximately 9:50 a.m., Honolulu Police assisted state sheriffs with the evacuation of the Hawaiʻi State Capitol after DLE canine units and the HPD Special Services Division responded to a possible explosive in the area. After investigation, it was determined that there is no threat to the public.

HPD EVACUATES THE HAWAIʻI STATE CAPITOL; ASKS PUBLIC TO AVOID SURROUNDING STREETS   On March 28, 2026, at approximately 9:50 a.m., Honolulu Police assisted state sheriffs with the evacuation of the Hawaiʻi State Capitol due to a possible bomb threat.   Punchbowl, Richards, Miller and Beretania Streets are currently closed near the Capitol.   The Hawaiʻi State Capitol was the location of a planned protest this morning. The state Department of Law Enforcement is moving participants to the ʻIolani Palace grounds until the validity of the bomb threat can be determined.   HPD is asking the public to avoid the area as the investigation is active.

HPD Shuts Down Illegal Gambling Operation on N. King Street On March 25, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., HPD executed a search warrant at an illegal gambling establishment on N. King Street, resulting in the arrest of one individual, along with the seizure of multiple gaming machines, cash, possible illicit drugs, and drug-related paraphernalia. The Narcotics/Vice Division, with assistance from the District 1 Crime Reduction Unit, and the Specialized Services Division, recovered 16 gambling machines along with more than $3,000 in cash. A 53-year-old male was arrested for Promoting Gambling in the Second Degree and Possession of a Gambling Device. The arrest was made without incident. HPD remains committed to addressing illegal gambling operations that negatively impact the safety and quality of life in our communities. Murder Investigation in Makiki Area District 1 officers are investigating a murder in the Makiki area which occurred on March 27, 2026. An adult male was found unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time, there are no arrests. The investigation remains ongoing. District 8 Community Policing officers partnered with Kapolei Neighborhood Security Watch members for two traffic safety sign-waving events earlier this month. 🚸🚓 Officers and NSW members joined students and staff from Kapolei Middle School at one event, and members of the Kapolei Lions Club in front of Honouliuli Middle School at another. Together, students, staff, community members, and officers stood side by side to remind drivers to slow down and help keep our school zones safe. On March 24, 2026, at about 8:23 p.m., the suspect, a 17-year-old male, was located and placed under arrest for Robbery 1st and Driving Without a License. ______ This is the third post about this incident.

Reckless Endangering Investigation in Waimānalo On March 24, 2026, at approximately 9:33 a.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire in the area of Mokulama Street and Makakalo Street in Waimānalo. A witness reported seeing a white utility-type truck traveling on the roadway, with an unknown male in the passenger seat holding what appeared to be a black handgun out of the window. The male discharged a round toward the ground before the vehicle continued driving away. Officers searched the area and recovered one shell casing. No injuries were reported. The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or contact CrimeStoppers at (808) 955-8300.
