The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) and the Indian Institute of Information Technology Pune (IIIT Pune) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 23 July 2026 at the IIT Bombay campus to strengthen academic, research and innovation-driven collaboration between the two institutions. The MoU was signed by Prof. Shireesh B. Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay and Prof. Vineet Kansal, Director, IIIT Pune. The MoU establishes a framework for collaboration in joint research, faculty and student exchange, internships, knowledge sharing, innovation and capacity building. It also provides opportunities for IIIT Pune students to participate in research and internship programmes at IIT Bombay, fostering academic excellence and technological advancement. The visit comprised interactions with IIT Bombay's Research & Development unit, visits to theSociety for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE) and BharatGen, and discussions on the Early Induction Programme (EIP). These engagements provided the IIIT Pune delegation with insights into IIT Bombay's vibrant ecosystem for research, innovation, entrepreneurship, technology commercialization, startup incubation and indigenous AI development. The discussions explored opportunities for collaborative research, translational innovation, industry-academia partnerships, faculty and student engagement, and the creation of a robust innovation ecosystem, laying the foundation for impactful collaborations that contribute to technological advancement and nation-building.

The #NationalMeans-cum-MeritScholarshipScheme (#NMMSS) opens a path for economically weaker sections to complete their secondary education.📚✨ 🔹 2,38,245 students selected through merit exams received fresh & renewal scholarships worth ₹286 crs in 2025–26, @₹12,000 per student per year for four years upto Class 12 based on merit. 🔹 Over the last 5 years (2021–22 to 2025–26), 12,32,412 students have continued their education beyond Class VIII through NMMSS, backed by an investment of ₹1,467 crs. 🔹 NMMSS is creating global opportunities—56 students, the majority being NMMSS scholars, were selected for the Sakura Science Programme 2026 in Japan, showcasing their excellence in science and communication. 🔹 27 States/UTs achieved 100% utilization of their fresh scholarship quota in 2025–26, up from 23 States/UTs in the previous year—ensuring wider access to deserving students. IIT Bombay is happy to announce the publication of Mudrākṣaravidyā: Siddhānta Āṇi Vyavahār, authored by Prof. Girish Dalvi, IDC School of Design, IIT Bombay. Written in Marathi, the 350-page volume presents a comprehensive introduction to typography with a focus on Devanāgarī, covering its evolution from metal type to digital fonts, the history of printing, typesetting, and letterform design. Published with the support of the Rajya Marathi Vikas Sanstha, Government of Maharashtra, the book is a significant contribution to the documentation and study of Devanāgarī typography. Its six chapters trace the journey from metal type to digital fonts and cover the Devanāgarī script, the history of printing, letterform anatomy and classification, typesetting, and the debates around type. The Office of International Relations, IIT Bombay, is delighted to acknowledge and sincerely appreciate the support extended by our key partner, Montanuniversität Leoben (MUL), Austria, to the IIT Bombay Racing Team during their preparations for the Formula Student competitions in Switzerland and Portugal. As one of IIT Bombay's key strategic international partners, Montanuniversität Leoben graciously hosted the team in Leoben for three weeks, providing them with the facilities and environment needed to assemble, test and fine-tune their electric race car before the international competitions. Such support played a significant role in helping the team prepare for one of the world's most prestigious student engineering competitions. Beyond access to technical infrastructure, the visit enabled meaningful interactions with MUL faculty, researchers, students and the Montanfactory Racing Team, fostering the exchange of knowledge, engineering best practices and innovative ideas. This collaboration is a wonderful example of how international university partnerships can create opportunities that extend well beyond traditional student exchange and research. The Office of International Relations, IIT Bombay, had the privilege of welcoming Ms. Hitomi Sato, Consul General of Japan in Mumbai, on her first visit to IIT Bombay after assuming office. uring her visit, she met with the institute's senior leadership, including Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director; Prof. Milind Atrey, Deputy Director (Academic, Research & Translation) and Prof. Sudarshan Kumar, Dean (International Relations), to discuss opportunities for further strengthening academic and research collaborations between India and Japan. She was also briefed about the IIT Bombay–Japan Collaboration Cell, established in August 2025, which serves as a dedicated cell to strengthen engagement between IIT Bombay and Japanese universities, industries, government agencies, and research organizations through academic exchanges, joint research and institutional collaborations. The Consul General also visited the Society for Innovation & Entrepreneurship -SINE IIT Bombay and ASPIRE IITB Research Park Foundation, where she was introduced to the institute's thriving start up, innovation and research ecosystem. The visit concluded with an interaction with 20 students from seven Japanese universities who participated in the IIT Bombay International Summer School 2026. The students shared their experiences of studying at IIT Bombay and engaging with peers from across the world. The Office of International Relations, IIT Bombay, successfully hosted the International Summer School 2026 from 6–11 July 2026. The one-week programme offered international students an opportunity to learn from IIT Bombay faculty, interact with peers from across the world, and experience the vibrant academic and cultural environment of the institute. This year's Summer School welcomed over 68 students from 21 countries and 27+ universities, making it one of the most diverse editions of the programme. Participants came from Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Canada, Finland, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Latvia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nepal, the Netherlands, Oman, the Philippines, Russia, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom and Vietnam. The programme also saw the participation of 20 students from seven Japanese universities, further strengthening IIT Bombay's academic engagement with Japan. A total of six interdisciplinary courses were offered by IIT Bombay Faculty Members: * Applications of Biostatistics in Biology & Biomedical Engineering * Becoming an Entrepreneur * Group Testing: An Important Tool for Data Science * Waste to Energy * Quantitative Finance: From Stochastic Models to Deep Learning * Neuromorphic Computing Along with classroom learning, participants interacted with IIT Bombay faculty and students, built international friendships, and experienced life on the IIT Bombay campus. The International Summer School reflects IIT Bombay's continued commitment to promoting academic excellence, international collaboration, and cross-cultural learning. 60 years. One campus. A bond that keeps growing. The Class of 1971, one of IIT Bombay's most engaged and accomplished alumni cohorts, returned to the campus where their journey began in 1966.
