When every second mattered, courage led the way! On 24/02/2026, displaying exemplary devotion to duty, A&N Police and Forest Deptt. Personnel responded swiftly to the helicopter emergency landing in the sea near Mayabunder. HC (Compounder) Kartik Kumar of IRBn, along with forest deptt. personnel, rushed to the spot in a dinghy, evacuated the passengers, and rendered immediate first aid, playing a crucial and life-saving role preventing any loss of life. Subsequently, the PMF Mayabunder team, HC Ratan Jha and HC M. Gopi, along with PMF vessel, swiftly rescued the two pilots and undertook an underwater check to ensure no one remained trapped. The coordinated response ensured prompt medical assistance. #WarOnDrugs On 14th February 2026, the Anti-Narcotics Police Station conducted two successful operations against drug trafficking activities at VSI Airport and Dairy Farm, Sri Vijaya Puram. During these coordinated raids, the team seized 935 grams of Ganja and 54.01 grams of Methamphetamine. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the cases. Cases under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 have been registered, and further investigation is underway. GBBC & CBC–2026 Bird Count Conducted at Police Lines ! In observance of the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) and Campus Bird Count (CBC) 2026, an outdoor birdwatching and documentation activity was conducted at Police Lines on 13 February 2026 (0600–0730 hrs). The programme marked the first such initiative at the venue and served as the inaugural environmental activity of the event, aimed at fostering ecological awareness, recreation, and citizen science participation. The event was organized under the supervision of Niyati Mittal, SP (APU). Participation: More than 55 participants, including police personnel, children, and a resource expert from the Andaman Avians Club, actively participated in the count. Institutional Achievement: The Police Lines campus has been formally registered as an eBird Hotspot, facilitating systematic bird documentation and contributing to global biodiversity databases. Outcome: A total of 26 bird species were recorded during the activity, underscoring the rich avifaunal diversity within the campus premises.
