Farewell #HRPD @isisneutronmuon for now. The final run is ended and the shutter's closed on 40 years of operation; more than 80,000 datasets collected, 2000-odd experiments (some more odd than others) and over 1000 publication. See you again in 2028 !!

It's the last day of our user cycle, and so the last day of HRPD before its demolition and rebuild as part of the Endeavour programme. Photos are the 1988 beamline scientists, and Lemuel and Lexy, the last external users!

Keenan led brilliantly, supported by new members Leonardo Phoebe and Adam. I couldn’t join the whole mission, but they delivered great results over two intense weeks.

40 yr ago today, #HRPD at @isisneutronmuon took its first neutrons, & nickel oxide was one of the earliest samples measured. Last repeated on the 5th anniversary on 16 Dec 1989, today we made one final measurement of NiO before going off for HRPD's big upgrade!

A strategic partnership between research facilities in the UK and Switzerland has been established by the UK International Science Partnerships Fund, which will develop new capabilities for science using neutrons, muons and X-rays.
