Michael Hafftka has been painting the human face for over four decades. Confrontational, expressionist, deeply psychological. In the mid-1980s, he handed Francis Bacon a stack of reproductions at a Marlborough Gallery opening. Bacon looked around at everyone in the room and told them to keep them. He said he thought they were beautiful. (Works from that period shown below)
