Discussion.
Amateur baseball is overflowing with disrespect.
Why?
Parents, Coaches, Media, Social Media, Transfer Portal, NIL, Lack of Bench Clearing Brawls.
Parents.
A lot of parents are teaching their kids they should be able to do whatever they want, whenever they want, however they want. Disrespect starts at home and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Coaches.
A lot of coaches are afraid to hold kids accountable. They're afraid the kid will either quit or enter the transfer portal. A lot of the coaches that aren't afraid to hold kids accountable are afraid that if they do, they will be fired by soft liberal woke administrators.
The media and social media
The glorification of shitty behavior like bat flips, taunting, celebrations and clownery by tournament organizations, coaches and others have been an incredibly detrimental influence to young players.
Transfer portal
A lot of kids learn about bouncing from team to team as youngsters and are allergic to planting roots and fighting through adversity. The portal has also destroyed the mindset of a lot of college coaches, because they'd rather push the kid into the portal instead of developing him, and a lot of P5 coaches simply allow others to develop the player then offer him more money through tampering to enter the portal.
NIL
A lot of kids have been entitled to think they're major league players playing college baseball. A lot could care less about the program, their teammates, coaches and most especially opponents.
Lack of bench clearing brawls.
The actual brawl is the deterrent and a lot of kids could learn a lot from actually being forced into physical confrontation because of their actions. A lot of the players that run their mouths, bat flip, dance like morons and celebrate everything, want no part of a physical altercation and know that they're protected.
Playing with class, respecting the game, respecting the opponent and respecting umpires should be mandatory regardless of the situation.
Watching a MLB or P5 game is almost impossible because of the theatrics and celebrations, and it's trickling down to lower levels of college baseball, high school baseball, travel baseball and even youth leagues.

When I visit our Minor League clubs, I don't just jump right into coaching.
The first thing I do is listen and watch. I start "collecting coins."
"Collecting coins" is finding out about who the players really are. I want to learn about them.
Were there two parents in the house growing up? Just mom? Just dad? Any mentors? Did they love school or struggle with it? What do they like to do when they're not on the field? Movies? Books? How do they learn best?
Anyone can read a scouting report and tell you about their arm strength or speed.
But real trust starts building when you take the time to learn about who someone really is.
Here's what I've learned: nobody lets you coach them until they trust you.
And they won't trust you until they know you care about them as a person, not just what they can do on the field.

Make a difference today.

Hitters love to film their swing.
Slow it down, frame by frame.
Bat path, hip turn, finish. All of it.
Nobody films what they look like on deck.
Nobody films their face in the box before the first pitch.
But that's the part hitters at the next level have figured out (and most don't).
I've watched college guys with picture-perfect swings get out and cut.
And guys with weird, ugly swings hit .350 in the SEC.
The difference was never just the swing.
It was whether they believed they were the best hitter in the box.
Whether they walked up there ready to do whatever it took to get a knock.
Whether they cared more about winning the at-bat than looking pretty doing it.
Hitters with conviction find a way to win and help their team.
They foul off the 0-2 pitch they had no business swinging at.
They take the close one when everyone in the park thought they were swinging.
They drop a bunt when the third baseman cheats back.
They hit the blooper single up the middle on a pitcher's pitch.
Pretty swings don't do that.
Hitters who believe they're going to win do.
Stop falling in love with what your swing looks like on film.
Start falling in love with what it takes to get on base.
And help your team win.
That's what it's ALL about.
> Send this to a hitter who needs it
> Save this for when you need it.

Coaching 8u has been so fun. I hadn't coached teams in about 10 years and all of the problems from 10 years ago have only grown.
Lots of time and money being spent because, for the most part, parents are not informed consumers.

🎥 Being good isn’t being on the best travel team or going to the best tournaments or beating up players less physically developed when they’re 12. Players need to be shown where they are in the grand scheme of things. And it needs to happen early. #playerintelligence

@HorizonHawksSB You don’t time your swing, you time the ball.
The longer the swing, the more you have to time the swing.
The shorter the swing, the more you can time the ball.
(If you can’t time the hard one, either way, you can’t hit.)
