When you're in the stadium, you can hear there are many people singing with you, but since you're not in the center of the stage, you can't really tell if the artist actually feels the full impact of all those voices.
Except for Arirang.
I could barely hear the music, we were so loud.
The whole stadium sounded like a thunderous choir.
A perfect memory.

This was Madrid armys standing for a metro that NEVER ARRIVED, because something went wrong, leaving 60,000+ armys completely stranded. There was no communication anything was wrong. Ultimately an employee yelled. No alternatives. Uber prices went to 120€ and up. We are still commuting back to our hotels, the concert ended 3 hours ago. Oh and by the way they SHUT DOWN CROSSWALKS around the stadium 🥴🥴🥴🥴 to monopolize the road traffic for the cars only. The biggest organizational shitshow I've ever seen, and yesterday returning home set the bar high

(I Am a Farmer / Soy Agricultor) mencionandolo
🎤 ¿La estrella mundial Jin?!
🗣️ Soy el tío de Jin.
🎤 ¿Quién dijo que nuestras fresas estaban deliciosas?
🗣️ ¡Jin!

I just read a fascinating interpretation of BTS’s concert in Mexico through the concept of shinmyeong (신명) & I thought an explanation might be easier to understand than a direct translation
For those unfamiliar with the term, shinmyeong can be understood as a collective release of energy that occurs when rhythm, voice, emotion, movement etc come together & people feel carried by this shared force
My way of distinguishing it from heung (흥) is this to think of heung as a spark OR the joy, rhythm, playfulness, excitement or feeling that begins to rise when music moves people. In contrast, shinmyeong is what happens when that spark becomes collective
The article begins with 65k people cheering for BTS & Arirang together. To the writer, it resembled a modern gutpan (굿판), a ritual space where suppressed emotions are collectively released & transformed into communal energy
To explain this idea, the article connects the concert experience to several Korean traditional forms, especially those associated with Gyeongbuk culture
One example is Donghaean Byeolsingut (동해안별신굿) or an east coast village ritual. It served as a collective space for healing, where the entire village participated, praying for safety, well-being & an abundant catch. Through kkwaenggwari (꽹과리), rhythm, dance, song, etc. people cried & laughed together. Individual han (한), anxiety & sorrow dissolved into a collective catharsis
The article also brings in the pungnyu spirit of the Silla Hwarangdo
Pungnyu (풍류) is described here as a Korean spiritual culture that restores the energy of life through music, dance, nature, human connection, harmony etc between people & the world. The article tied it to the Hwarang tradition of communal resonance & spiritual cultivation. Yes, like Tae’s Hwarang
Another comparison is Cheoyongmu (처용무), a masked dance rooted in the Silla legend of Cheoyong. It was associated with driving away disaster & anxiety while promoting communal wellbeing. The writer connects its combination of mask, dance, music etc to the participatory catharsis of modern performance culture
The article also discusses talchum (탈춤) or Korean mask dance. In talchum, people participated through laughter, physical responses, chuimsae (추임새) or vocal encouragement that energises the performance. The writer sees a structural similarity with K-concerts where fans sing, chant, respond, move & actively help create the atmosphere
Finally, the article mentions dongje (동제) or village rites in northern Gyeongbuk. People gathered to make offerings, share food & strengthen communal bonds. The article presents dongje as another example of a Korean tradition centred on communal harmony
The article argues that K-concert culture functions in a structurally similar way. Mass singing, chanting, cheering etc can transform private emotions into collective energy. In this sense, the writer sees K-concerts as part of the globalisation of Korean shinmyeong
The writer suggests that today’s global fandoms can also be understood through this modern pungnyu lens. Through music, fans comfort one another, build solidarity & create a sense of community across distance
So the article’s point is that the emotional structure of BTS’ concert feels culturally familiar as a Korean
The power of the moment is not only BTS on stage. It is BTS, ARMY, Arirang, memory, longing, joy & collective frequencies merging into one living field of energy
Doesn’t this sound like the honmoon? Haha
