BREAKING: #CarmenMejia just walked free after 22 years of wrongful conviction in Texas. While she was exonerated on Monday, she was not immediately released due to an immigration hold. ICE announced that in light of the exoneration they would lift the detainer so that she could be released from local custody. "I never lost faith and hope — I never lost it in 22 years," she said. Tennessee plans to execute #TonyCarruthers tomorrow for a crime in which Tony has always maintained his innocence. He has spent 30 years on death row, and the state has refused to test DNA evidence in his case that could prove his innocence claim. The Innocence Project urges clemency for Tony before Tennessee carries out an irreversible injustice. bit.ly/42J8Qbp

New Hampshire has a restrictive three-year deadline on requests for new trials. This means that if new evidence is discovered or a confession proves someone’s innocence — they’re out of luck. Help us urge Gov. Kelly Ayotte to pass HB 1422: bit.ly/46lIu1c

Jimmie "Chris" Duncan was freed in November 2025, after being on Louisiana's death row for 27 years. His #wrongfulconviction was based on now discredited bite mark analysis and testimony from forensic pathology analysts, who participated in at least nine other cases now known to have resulted in wrongful convictions. Though Chris' conviction was overturned last year, prosecutors are seeking to reinstate his death sentence. bit.ly/4noJKYy

Calvin Duncan was excited to begin his first day Monday as the clerk of the criminal court in New Orleans — but the state eliminated the position after he won with a 68% majority. Calvin served 28 years in prison, and was exonerated in 2021 after evidence proved that he was innocent and that the police had lied in court. Read more about his story: nyti.ms/3Pn30ZY

When Carmen Mejia was wrongfully convicted of a murder that never happened in 2003 — at least one person in the courtroom believed in her innocence: Art Guerrero. Art was the courtroom bailiff at her trial and brought her case to the Innocence Project. Last week, the two met for the first time since Carmen’s release in March. statesman.com/news/article/c…
