The latest ONS data shows that recovery continued in the construction sector, but the growth in output was lower than in recent months. Only the infrastructure sector was higher year-on-year. Interactive chart here: bit.ly/37UF1Yv

Worryingly, the latest NHS England data shows that the number of new patients making it onto the waiting list remains significantly below pre-pandemic levels, as fewer people attend A&E and primary care settings. The missing referrals indicate a sizeable 'hidden' backlog.

Elective surgery admissions recovered well in September, but it was not enough to prevent the NHS England waiting list from rising further.

The latest NHS England figures show that the total elective surgery waiting list stood at 4.34 million in September. Just under 140,000 patients had waited more than a year.
