Do you know why I say time and time again on YT videos that if you don’t like a piece of media, you should just leave the room instead of engaging with it or making it everyone else’s problem? It’s because of events like this. Actions that seem to mean well at first, always go too far and start the process of removing stuff that you yourself may enjoy. DDLC is a gut punching series that tells its story well and needs all of its story elements to tell it. If that is something someone can’t handle, then they should leave it be, not cheer or support its removal. And before you say “oh it’s just the android version, who plays it there?” 1) *you* don’t play it on Android, but someone definitely did 2) who’s to say this isn’t testing the waters and see where else it can be removed?

@itsapmseymour and attention brings plenty of money to be made from merch sales or an eventual re-release of the game with a price tag.
the portrayal of mental health in this game is bad, at best, and is purely played for shock value from that one scene(you know exactly which one) onwards

@itsapmseymour to put it simply: this is a horror game. it isn't portraying these things because it cares about them or wants to spread awareness, its doing it for shock value because an anime dating sim character repeatedly stabbing herself in the chest gets attention on your game.

@itsapmseymour -that's not a theme, its just something it portrays. very badly, to a borderline insulting extent.
-that would work if the poems were written well for that purpose. they aren't. they're either just normal poems with allusions that only make sense retroactively, or are this.

Glad you asked
The first theme is mental illness and invisible signs it possesses, and only seeing them when it far too late to help them.
Second is writing is very much a coping method people who struggle with dark thoughts will use to get their feelings out, each poem written by the girls does elude to the problems they are facing with themselves.
Third is the spiral that is obsession, and how it can destroy the vision of real relationships and goals in life, trying to aim for that perfect fantasy instead of embracing life, warts and all.
