Just heard from Pastor Josh Miller at @CenterCville. They had Easter services on the grounds of UVA and then at the Paramount Theater downtown. He passed along his thanks to @SummitRDU for the investment he can now pour into Charlottesville, VA. Praise God! Eph 3:20

What does it look like to face enemies in a way that actually reflects the gospel? I recently read a great article on this and wanted to share it: "If, after being freed from those curses, we then prayed those imprecations over our own personal enemies, we would likely be acting a lot like the ungrateful servant in Jesus’s parable who, after being forgiven the massive debt of 10,000 talents, attacked someone who owed him only 100 days’ wages and threw the man in prison (Matthew 18). One might be justified in wondering if we really understood the depths of the curses that we have been freed from if we’re so quick to curse our own enemies." Always love these trips to D.C. We visited the incredible #MuseumOfTheBible — 1 of top 3 best museums (just from quality standpoint, not in DC even counting subject matter)! Learn new stuff every time, including this little tidbit for @SummitRDU Also enjoyed time with Presidential Advisor for International Religious Freedom @RepMarkWalker —incredible things happening through him. And of course had a great time cruising around town with this road warrior.

Steve Gaines was a brother in arms to me if ever there was such a thing. He was a colleague, a captain, an older brother, a friend, a mentor. He had a relentless, unflagging, inspiring fixation on evangelism. It stood at the center of everything he did, every venture he undertook, every fight he engaged in.   Many remember his and my intersection in the SBC Presidential election of 2016 in which I pulled out so he could win unopposed. What most people don’t know is that he first insisted it be him to drop out. But it was clear that he was God’s choice for that hour. Stepping aside to serve and follow him was one of the easiest decisions I’d ever made. May God give us 10,000 more like him. We certainly need more of him in this hour. You are loved and will be missed, brother.

Wanted to share @N_Rostampour’s really hopeful, gospel-centered piece on “Why Some Iranians Dance in the Midst of War” ekklesiamission.org/post/why-some-…
J.D. Greear@jdgreear

In light of the current situation in Iran- world conflicts are messy and complicated, way more than I can or should cover in one hot take. I am praying for our leaders to act with justice, boldness, discernment and wisdom. I am also praying for and for the protection of our military, who put themselves into harm’s way for the protection of others. Most of all, our Summit family is praying for the many, many house churches we know exist in Iran. One of our pastors, @N_Rostampour, has planted 12 house churches there in Iran and every week leads services from right here at our church for 300 covenant members there. Additionally, there is an online audience of over 50,000 Iranians who tune in each week to hear the Bible taught and thirteen new first-generation leaders–meaning, Muslims who have recently come to faith in Christ–being trained to lead there in ministry. We have lost contact with some of these brothers and sisters in the last few days, and we pray for their safety.  We are longing for our brothers and sisters that one day they will be able to worship and preach the gospel openly in Iran. We can’t help but believe God is opening a door for the gospel that cannot be shut, we want to be ready to go through it when he does. Lord, let it be. Please pray this with me.

We grieve the passing of a Southern Baptist icon and open mic legend. Wiley and I had some wonderful (and a few interesting) interactions. To note, he defeated me for 2nd Vice President of the SBC in 2006. Praying for his family. You will be missed, Wiley. You were loved.
