i’ve always held the opinion if you want to capture a windfall, you should be a shareholder, which should be the state investing in fossil fuel exploration and production. not jumping in when the going gets good

taxing windfalls is fraught in the best of cases, and generally does more damage than the potential transfer make up for, while being complicated to implement and historically poor at generating revenues

talking about soil in such general terms is effectively meaningless. there are 100s of different types of soils! there are nuanced conversations to be had here but you simply cannot feed the world without artificial fertilisers!

I want to make something clear about this: artificial fertiliser use fundamentally changes the composition of soil and soil ecosystems. Yield collapse is assured by its absence. Whilst possible, soil restoration takes a long time.
