Left this check strip on purpose of course… just shows what effect Duracor sprayed in May can have on ragweed in August.

Native grass hay production was down. Hoping for 6 bales (4x6) per acre. Got 4. With $80/ac fertilizer and $30/bale custom hay fee, still at $50/bale. Beats paying $100/bale for “mixed grass” hay. #nativespay #grazingnatives

Johnson Grass, hate it or love it,have probably saved some producers this summer with the drought. Next couple nights in SW MO will be well below freezing and prussic acid in Johnson Grass should be of concern. If possible remove animals from field until plants are dead and brown.

Big thanks to the Aufdenberg family and SEMOs ⁦@MoCattle⁩ for having ⁦@MFA_Inc⁩ as their guests in Jackson. It was a great evening to discuss native grass and overall pasture management with local cattle producers.

First day of many for these pairs on native warm season grass. Fescue is decreasing in quality and increasing in toxicity. Warm season grasses add pounds of beef. What type of warm season forage are you grazing this year? #grazingnatives

The good side of fescue-Great protein and energy levels on stockpiled fescue barring any catastrophic ice storms…. Moving cows every two days on this stockpiled fescue. Should be feeding hay by mid February when calving starts.

With assistance from @MoDNR cost share we are building fence and installing waterers. By using @MFA_Inc Nutri-track program and increasing forage utilization with smaller paddocks I will be increasing my herd and have more calves to sell. #grazingnatives #takehalfleavehalf

Ever wondered how many actual pounds of forage you have available to your cows? This video discusses the benefits of stockpiled fescue and how to determine paddock size when strip grazing stockpiled fescue. #ConservationGrazing m.youtube.com/watch?v=asrCEr…

With cooler temps and rain being forecasted this week, now would be a great time to apply 40-60lbs of nitrogen fertilizer to stockpile your fescue. Stockpiling will reduce stored feed supplys and the headaches of feeding hay in the winter. “Mud in the winter=weeds in summer”

The growing point on NWSG is higher than our cool season grasses. It’s important to raise your mowers up when cutting NWSG for hay. Especially on a late season cutting. This producer used cylinder stops to raise his moco up to about 8” cutting height. #grazingnatives

Had first report of alfalfa weevils today in SW MO. Steward, at 10 oz is usually a one pass solution. Add 1-2 qt Buctryl to help with the with winter annual weeds. If it's Roundup Ready, you can tank mix the glyphosate and AMS also. Call your local MFA for proper tank mixing.
