If I'm not for myself, who will be for me? If I'm only for myself, what am I? If not now, when?

"Don't eat indoors with people you don't live with" is a clearer and better message than "cancel Thanksgiving."

@ArchaeoBenjamin It's an incredibly racist law that authorizes the death penalty only for Palestinians who murder Jews and not for Jews who murder Palestinians. That is apartheid.

It is very easy to oppose death penalty laws w/o lies. A bill to allow death penalty sentencing in cases of terroristic murder is not "mass execution" nor is it "genocide." The law exists bc Israel is tired of trading convicted killers for the dead bodies of kidnapped babies.
Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib@RepRashida

The Israeli government is about to pass a law mandating the death penalty, only for Palestinian prisoners. Mass execution by hanging, solely on racial lines. This is apartheid and the next step in the genocide of Palestinians, already systematically tortured in Israeli prisons.

@saminthecan @NewYorker I'm curious to hear more about how you view the role that the synagogue has played in town. DM me if you are willing to share.

@jacobtaber @NewYorker Sure, but what I'm saying is that as someone who lives in this town and has watched the press largely ignore the worst things going on here, it's frustrating to see the New Yorker cover this congregation and leave out so many details of the role they've played in our town.

@saminthecan @NewYorker it's....not about that? The article is very clearly about American synagogues, specifically, not Palestinian activism broadly.

@NewYorker I'm a journalist and lifelong resident of the town this piece is about. I'm also an anti-Zionist Jew. There's good stuff in this article, but it leaves out so much of the harassment, doxxing, and threats of violence that SOMA's pro-Palestine community has faced.

James Fishback really is just a completely compulsive liar. Yes, this is untrue. Yes, it's easily publicly verifiable. But think about how deep into lying you would have to get before coming up with "my great-granddad was a one-term governor of Arkansas."

@PhillipAVilches @NerdeenKiswani And Palestinian citizens of Israel also have an ID that allows free movement. You seem not to want to recognize the existence of that category because it complicates your story.

@jacobtaber @NerdeenKiswani Sorry Twitter has a character limit, man. Specifying the OCCUPIED victims of an apartheid state have different IDs that limit their movement was secondary to the fact that the group responsible for it gets the ID that allows free movement.

You don’t get to say it’s acceptable to criticize Zionism but then call it antisemitic the moment that people actually define what it is. ‘Jewish supremacy’ isn’t an attack on Jews as a people. It’s a direct description of an ideology that structures power, land, and rights in a way that privileges Jews over others, particularly Palestinians.
Organizermemes@OrganizerMemes

"Jewish supremacy" is the easiest tell of when someone's Anti zionism is just antisemitism the equivalent to the right using "radical Islam" a decade ago, not distinguishing between religion and extremist ideology Especially since the vast majority of Zionists are Christian

@PhillipAVilches @NerdeenKiswani So your “fact” was very much wrong though. It’s possible (preferable) even to talk about the reality of apartheid in the occupied territories without just making shit up.

@PhillipAVilches @NerdeenKiswani It is an ethnocentric national project by Israeli Jews. There is no notable Jewish supremacist ideology within the diaspora analogous to white supremacism, which is what the term is meant to imply.

@PhillipAVilches @NerdeenKiswani That’s not true. Palestinians citizens of Israel have a blue teudat zehut. Occupied Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, who are denied citizenship, are treated differently.

@jacobtaber @NerdeenKiswani Being Jewish determines what your ID looks like in Israel. If you‘re a Jew from anywhere on Earth, you get to have a blue ID card solely because you‘re Jewish. If you’re Palestinian, it’s green. I’m sorry the facts upset you. But they should upset you. They’re upsetting facts.

@PhillipAVilches @NerdeenKiswani It was your choice of language not mine! I think you went with “anti-Irish” because we don’t usually conceptualize European imperialism and colonialism as an ethnocentric project.

@jacobtaber @NerdeenKiswani Are you making the argument that the largest empire in human history that colonized every corner of the globe didn’t believe in British supremacism? That if the Indians slaughtered under Churchill rallied against British supremacism and you were British you’d tone-police them?

@jacobtaber @NerdeenKiswani Notice how Jewish supremacism is an active political project in Israel and we are talking about how it is codified in the nation of Israel? It’s like how discussing Anti-Irish sentiment is allowed even when you’re in America, because you’re referring to its existence in the UK.

@obus_r @NerdeenKiswani Saying that the ideology of Jewish supremacy flourishes in America is an attack personal to me as a Jewish person. It’s the kind of bullshit that has been used by European Christians to justify violence and expropriation for centuries.

@jacobtaber @NerdeenKiswani Look to take this more seriously than it deserves, I think there is a devastating error of fear and narcissism at the root of this insistence on construing an intra-communal call to fight bigotry and violence as an attack and an undue expectation personal to you.

@jacobtaber hey, you should try reading a book one of these days. Why don't you start with Fred Rosenbaum's history of Congregation Emanuel-El, wherein he makes just the argument you find so offensive?

Jewish supremacy also describes the history of powerful San Francisco Jewish leaders who pushed through so much anti-Chinese legislation, including the Chinese Exclusion Act and its extensions. My mother was trapped in China for the duration of Japanese occupation due to the CEA.

@jacobtaber @NerdeenKiswani That said, today jewry is, tragically, shamefully, inextricably bound up with the project of Zionism—occupation, apartheid, genocide. This is not a conspiratorial claim, just a simple, observable condition. If to accept something so plain is to you so untenable… see above

@obus_r @NerdeenKiswani Some American Jews (not a majority, say recent surveys) support Israeli apartheid in Israel--they privilege Jewish Israeli safety and power over Palestinian safety and freedom. But you suggest some larger plot by Diaspora Jews to dominate their non-Jewish neighbors. Nonsense.

@jacobtaber @NerdeenKiswani To wield a charge falsely is to weaponize. What of that? The ideology of Jewish supremacy, and the supranational apparatus of slaughter that it underpins, shelter and flourish in America. You would seem to insist we cannot name this simple, consequential reality

@NerdeenKiswani The problem with the broad use of the term "Jewish supremacy" in American political discourse (and we're all Americans here) is that it's weaponized against American Jews, who are a small minority. There are lots of other ways to accurately describe Zionism.

@NerdeenKiswani Context matters. It makes sense to talk about Han Supremacism in China but not in the U.S., where Chinese people are a minority. It makes sense to talk about Arab Supremacism in Qatar or the UAE but not in London. Hindutva isn't a great concern in Mexico. Etc. etc. etc.
