If you are trying to figure out a way how to work for yourself, do your own thing and be in control of your own destiny one of the most important things you can do is lower your overhead. As soon as you start getting into more than you need you end up overextended and inflexible.
It's so tempting to try to get the place at the top of your budget or keep up with whatever someone else is doing but it's kneecapping you. That extra 700 dollars you are spending every month on rent or mortgage is making you less flexible and keeping you stuck.
You want to maximize your wiggle room and flexibility. That's the path to happiness, much more than a new bathroom.

@Empty_America One of the ones I stayed at last summer was a little motel way up in Copper Harbor (basically the northern most point) in the UP.
The rooms were right out of the 50s! It was right across the street from Lake Superior and just dead quiet!

The point of wealth is to leave it to your children. That is its only value, it has no other value, but it has many forms of anti-value, like leaving it to a charity.

@KevinRinke @georgejrUSMC @PJQualityGuru There are not enough jobs. High taxes and high utility rates. Why stay?

Too many young people are leaving Michigan.
That should concern every one of us.
In this conversation, @PJQualityGuru and I talk about what it actually takes to build a state where people don’t feel like they have to leave to succeed.
Lower taxes.
Smarter spending.
A stronger economic environment.
Because this isn’t just about numbers in a budget…
It’s about creating a Michigan where our kids want to stay, build careers, raise families, and invest in their future.
If we don’t fix that, nothing else matters.
See the full conversation dropping tomorrow at 9am on Beyond the Echo.
