Last week, we signed a €280K grant with @KCCAUG to tackle youth unemployment in Kampala metropolitan. Under #WeWorkUG, funded by the @EUinUG & Belgium, this partnership bridges the skills gap by aligning training with labour market needs. 1,000 youth will gain work-readiness skills, with at least 200 placed in private sector jobs. 🤝

@andrewcollinsk Coffee: is he largest export. Then there are flowers, fruits & vegetables, and increasingly farmed finfish and aquaculture products, having recently received increased EU authorization. Other products we also happily import are cocoa beans, vanilla & tea.

The EU is the top trading partner of African countries collectively and by far their largest export market, ahead of China, India & the United States. Ugandan exports to the EU currently stand at 1.4 billion euros, with a trade surplus of around 600 MEUR. consilium.europa.eu/en/infographic…

The EU and Ghana have a strong, long-standing partnership. By signing a new Security and Defence Partnership we are taking it further. This is the first agreement of its kind with an African country. I am pleased to sign it today in Accra with @NJOAgyemang. It will allow us to work more closely on areas that matter to citizens both in Europe and Ghana, such as counterterrorism, conflict prevention, and cybersecurity.

I also welcome the upcoming EU–Uganda Study Fair on 4th June at @Makerere as a timely initiative that will bring together higher education institutions and showcase study and research opportunities for Ugandan students. The @Educ_SportsUg will expedite coding approval for six schools to support ongoing EU-funded infrastructure development.
