We want all students to learn, but not all students are learning. If we designed more inclusive, equitable, tier-one learning… more students would be successful.

Teaching is a ridiculously hard job, some say almost impossible – like climbing Mount Everest (if you’ll allow for one last metaphor). Still, you’re aware of the difficulty, and though many before you have failed, you have accepted the challenge. #ChallengeAccepted #Believe #FindYourMarigold @brewerhm @cultofpedagogy cultofpedagogy.com/marigolds/

I love this excerpt from Relentless by Hamish Brewer @brewerhm #Relentless “Attitude You get to choose your attitude. You own it. Your attitude is your responsibility—no one else’s. Before you go through the doors of your school each morning, think about the opportunity that you have each and every day—the reasons you wanted to be a leader and educator. If you are not thinking about the opportunity, then you are focused on the obligation of a j-o-b, and that is where average lives. If you are leading and teaching for opportunity, you are on fire! Your attitude is one of the few things that is within your absolute control. As educators, we spend way too much time trying to control the things we have no control over. Release yourself from the shackles of toxic behaviors and conversations that weigh down your attitude. You know the kind of conversations I’m talking about. Most people do an amazing job of talking about other people or issues. They are great at bringing problems to the table. But there are relatively few people who talk about solutions or talk about being the answer to an issue.” “I challenge you to hold yourself to a higher standard. You will feel liberated and stress-free when you stop surrounding yourself with negative people and behaviors, when you stop trying to control the things you can’t. As I tell students, do not let anyone steal your future. If the people around you do not make you better, then cut them loose! Living in fear of what others may think is another thing that can affect your attitude—especially when others look at you like you’re crazy for coming into the building so happy or sharing how much you love your job. Just because other people hate their job (or life) doesn’t mean you can’t love yours! That’s on them. Don’t let their negativity slow you down, and don’t worry about upsetting those around you by striving to improve yourself and your work. Cut negativity loose!”

Pat Summit said, "Teamwork is really a form of trust. It’s what happens when you surrender the mistaken idea that you can go it alone and realize that you won’t achieve your individual goals without the support of your colleagues." Trust is earned, not given. Every team needs to trust each other. Transparency builds trust. Communication builds trust. Great teams create a culture of trust, respect, and collaboration. 6 Ways to Build Trust in your Team: 1. Build relationships: People want to know that you care about them, that you trust them, and that they can trust you. That happens when you invest time with each other and build bonds. 2. Lead by example: When you lead by example, your actions align with your words and you build trust through your consistent behavior. You set the standard and people follow that example. 3. Communicate openly and actively: When you communicate actively and honestly, you establish a foundation of credibility and integrity. Transparent and active communication creates an environment of trust. 4. Be true to your word: Keeping your promises and following through on commitments establishes reliability and fosters trust. Your actions need to line up with what you say. 5. Admit your mistakes: Acknowledging your mistakes and taking responsibility demonstrates honesty, humility, and builds trust. People want to know that they are dealing with an honest person who can be self-aware. 6. Be Consistent and Authentic: Consistency in your actions and character builds predictability, dependability, and trust because people know who you are and the values you stand for. Upholding those standards, reinforces trust in your intentions and decision-making.
