I’m so honored to share that I’ll be debuting a major installation of my visual art practice at the Salone Verde in Venice, running alongside the Venice Biennale in 2026. In partnership with @crystalbridges and curated by Joe Thompson, Matriclysm: An Archeology of Connections Lost is a deeply personal body of work exploring motherhood, feminine power, and what we lose when that power is diminished. This exhibition includes new paintings, sculptures, tapestries, installations and sound pieces created specifically for this show — my largest presentation of visual art to date. Matriclysm will be on view May 10–November 22, 2026. I can’t wait to share this part of my creative world with you!

Song #9  I’M SENSITIVE. I’m singing the entire album in order. If you like a song and don’t see it- check out my feed. One of my favorite things in my career is that my fan group called themselves the Everyday Angels based on this song - what a wonderful song to rally around. 🥹 😇

spoiler alert: I cry at the end. “He’s like an unused toy. He’s got big hands but the mind of a little boy.” 😭 I dedicate this song to anyone whose lives might be different. To care takers too. To anyone touched by someone whose life changed in an instant—whether it’s a friend, a family member, or someone in our community living with disabilities. These stories often go unspoken, but they deserve to be heard. This song is my way of honoring those journeys and the strength it takes to navigate them. I hope it reminds us to listen, support, and lift up those whose paths look different than our own. We see you. You matter.

Always a fun song to play. @stevepoltz - didn’t you have a similar song? I think I wrote this as a companion song to it - but that was a long time ago! #piecesofyou

Here is the second half of foolish games. For those new here, I thought I’d sing the entire album Pieces Of You in order. This is song 4. You can hear the prior ones by checking out my page. I really need to practice Painters, Adrian and Amen. Lordy those are long ones too! What songs are you looking forward to the most?

#Foolishgames was written when I was 18 or so. I was trying to conjure the same cinematic angst as Leonard Cohens The Famous Blue Raincoat. I was also heavily influenced by Pablo Neruda and his use of color and texture.I will release the second half of the song next! The song was too long for socials!

Song 2 of me singing the entire PIECES IF YOU ALBUM in order If you like this series - pls interact w the videos cause they are longer and the algorithm will suppress them otherwise I wrote “Pieces of You” when I was 18. To help me hold up a mirror to prejudice. The song intentionally uses harsh language—sexism, homophobia, antisemitism, bullying—because I wanted listeners to hear the kinds of things people actually say to each other, and to confront how fear and judgment get projected onto others. At the heart of the song is a question I was wrestling with: Why do we sometimes hate people who reflect parts of ourselves? Why do we reject in others the very pieces of ourselves we haven’t learned to accept or understand yet.

I will be debuting a new body of my visual art practice as a new solo exhibition presented by @crystalbridges to run concurrent with the Venice Biennale opening in May. The show is called Matriclysm, and explores feminine memory, power and its unraveling. One of the first pieces you will see is a large scale sculpture of a pregnant woman with a tree of life growing from her head - she is called FIRST MOTHER. And represents ‘mitochondrial Eve’ - an ancestor from Africa we can all trace our matrilineal heritage to. It was very important I made a work collaboratively with a man, and to make it in South Africa. I see it as a mending. A healing. I had been a fan of Patrick Bongoy’s work and was delighted he agreed to make this work with me in Cape Town. Two people coming together to honor the feminine.

Yesterday was the anniversary of Pieces Of You. This little album that could. To this day it’s the best selling debut album of ALL TIME. How crazy is that? I was a feral Alaskan girl. I was homeless. I turned down a 1 million dollar signing bonus - all because I wanted to make an acoustic folk album at the height of grunge and I was pretty sure it would not be a huge success, and I wanted to de-risk it for the label so I would not get dropped if it did not perform well. So I could make the music I wanted , how I wanted. And it did fail. For two years. So I went to work. Over 1,000 shows a year. 5 and 6 shows a day- high schools, radio stations, parking lots, coffee shops, opening for Bauhaus and Peter Murphy and punk bands in rough clubs. Slowly I developed ag rats roots following - and I got my big break on the @ConanOBrien show. I began to get momentum and soon I was selling 1 million albums every month, for over 15 months. What a wild ride! It is thanks to all of you for validating sensitive folk music in a world of male dominated grunge. I am so gratful to you all-more than you can ever know.

How cute is this video?! I met @stevepoltz when I was 18 years old, I was a barista in a coffee shop called Java Joes, and he was singing. He got me up to improvise on a blues song and it was the beginning of a life long friendship and artistic collaboration. We wrote “You Were Meant For Me” together! He is in that video :) I adore Poltzie…he’s funny, smart, and the best of pals. Happy Birthday Steve! If you have not seen him live or checked out his albums - you need to!
