Ada Ferrer’s “Cuba: An American History” (Pulitzer, 2022) must be a starting point for any Cuba novice and even some of us who grew up shaped by Cuban stories.

Bloomberg Businessweek gave me the impossible task of recommending 5—just 5—sources to read up / stay current on Cuban history, economics, and political affairs. Only in English, desde luego. Here's my best attempt. bloomberg.com/news/features/…

@atrupar i’d spend time looking at the insider trading and who benefits financially from all of trump’s wild “i’ll destroy you by x date” and then sudden climb downs. that’s much more of the story here.

I’m not asking you, I’m telling you. Take a moment and listen to this 81 second response from Victor Glover after being asked if he had any thoughts leading up to Easter. I don’t quite think it can be overstated how perfect this crew is for the job.

Cuba’s “goodwill” prisoner releases aren’t annual or random. They track high-level U.S. talks: 2015 (Obama deal), 2025 (Biden/Vatican channel), 2026 (current contacts). Every time, same playbook: when engaged as equals, releases follow. When dismissed or neglected, they stop.

The first foreign troops from the US-backed "Gang Suppression Force" arrived in Haiti this morning. As I wrote in @thenation (link in reply), this latest intervention seems more likely to perpetuate the crisis than stop it. To build something new, Haiti doesn’t need war. It needs peace.

Yes, US does PLAN to allow Cuba to receive this approaching Russian oil tanker. But it comes AFTER Cuban regime allowed for import of fuel for the US embassy, sources tell me. Important (until now unreported) action showing Havana playing ball, a bit... bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Amanecer de domingo en La Habana. Seguimos con el Sistema Electroenergético Nacional caído. Solo se ven algunas luces en la zona de la bahía que, probablemente, se encienden con generadores locales. #Cuba #SOSCuba

Before you rush to invest in #Cuba, it’s good to know what US law actually allows: The Cuban Assets Control Regulations (CACR, 31 CFR Part 515) prohibit US persons from engaging in virtually any transaction in which Cuba or a #Cuban national has an interest, including investments, without a specific OFAC license. No current general license covers what #Havana just announced. 1/5
