Antisemitism and hatred has no place in our country.

Images of Neo Nazis gathering are chilling anywhere, but especially here in Macnamara. Our community is one where we are proud of our diversity - everyone is welcome and can feel at home. Standing up to these racists is above politics and I send solidarity to James Paterson.

To threaten a place of worship is a threat to every single one of us. The targeting of a Mosque is unacceptable and must be outrightly condemned.

We need to continue to support small businesses in our local community to ensure that our streets are safe to live and work in. Clearly there’s more work to be done, but fining those sleeping rough is not the answer.

We need to continue working together across all levels of government to build more homes and fund services to ensure members of our community have access to the support they need to break the cycle of dislocation.

While the City of Port Phillip has not introduced any new laws, they are currently undertaking a review that will report back to Council in May. But let me be clear - fining homeless people will not work.

It’s incumbent on all of us to work together to combat the rising hate and vilification we are seeing across the state. It’s disappointing the Liberals will not be supporting anti-vilification legislation. I hope they reconsider.

The Jewish community aren’t the ones who hate freedom. It is Nazis and their racism that actually have no place in Australia. It is people like them who seek to spread fear and to make us feel like we don’t belong.

Yesterday neo-nazis in masks stood on the steps of Victorian Parliament with their dark bigotry on display. It was another chilling reminder of the rising antisemitism at home and around the world. Let me make this point clear…

Last night, a group of neo-Nazis, chanting hateful and racist slogans, came to disrupt their rally. They then made their way to South Melbourne. There is a very simple message for far-right extremists and neo-Nazis, your hatred is not welcome in our community.

A few weeks ago, I met with a group of Asylum Seekers who have been peacefully protesting for 100 days in Docklands. They are aged care workers, small business owners and community service providers. They are part of our community. 1/2

Support for a proscribed terrorist organisation has no place on the streets of Melbourne. Anyone breaking counter-terrorism legislation should face the full force of the law.

New stats from @ABSStats show monthly inflation went down 0.8 points in Aug to 2.7% and underlying inflation went down too. It’s a very heartening result that shows our policies are helping but we’re not complacent because we know people are still under pressure #auspol #ausecon
