Today was my last groundbreaking event as Judge. I’m excited to see work begin on the Southeast Connector, a project that will relieve congestion & enhance mobility in SE Tarrant. I’m proud of the work our regional partners have done together to make projects like this possible.

I was sad to hear of Jim Lane’s passing this morning. He was a public servant who left Fort Worth and Tarrant County better than he found it. He will be missed but his legacy lives on.

As part of Operation Green Light for Veterans, the @TarrantCountyTX Courthouse is illuminated in green to show appreciation & to raise awareness of the unique challenges faced by former service members in our community. On this Veterans Day, we honor all who served. Thank you!

It was an honor to help open the Tuskegee Airman State Veterans Home today. For many years, @TarrantCountyTX has been the home of thousands of our country’s military veterans. And now, for many years to come, it will be the home of the finest veterans’ home in the country.

@TeamBettencourt @KHancock4TX Tarrant Co voted to lower the tax rate at our 9/13 mtg. But hey don’t let facts get in your way! Point is, we could lower the rate more if the state was paying for their responsibilities. The state cost Tarrant Co taxpayers $56,185 today because they won’t take their prisoners.

Who benefits most from high appraisals? The State, since they don’t have to pay so much for public education (which makes up 50% of your tax bill). Appraisal reform is needed, but only with school tax relief.

Many taxpayers are concerned that their appraisals are too high. When the legislature passed SB 2 (authored by @TeamBettencourt), it changed the appraisal system and mandated how property were to be appraised.

The State of TX levies 30 different taxes. Of those, 2 (sales tax and prop tax) make up over 80% of tax revenue. Special interests work to make sure their taxes are kept low. The lege needs to evaluate all taxes on the books and make sure everyone is paying their fair share.

DID YOU KNOW: #TarrantCounty has the 7th lowest tax rate of all the counties in Texas.

Even then, Tarrant County’s property tax per capita is among the lowest of Texas counties: 248th out of 254. Here in #TarrantCounty we work really hard to be efficient with your tax dollars while also performing our responsibilities. The State should do the same.

These are just a few examples of state mandated property tax increases. Translation: The State not paying for their responsibilities means your property taxes are covering the cost.

Your local entities are finalizing their property tax rates for the year. Everyone promises they’ll lower property taxes and yet homeowners don’t feel relief – why? A few facts:
