Nothing quite as extreme as last week's 5° to 91° swing, but we area headed back toward more spring-like conditions after a couple of cooler days! Highs in the 50s today and tomorrow, with 70s making a comeback by Wednesday and Thursday.

Yesterday's heat really was remarkable, and it wasn't just Iowa! 96° in Omaha, 97° in Lincoln, NE and northern Kansas even topped 100! Much of Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri also saw record or near record heat for March and the earliest date ever to see this kind of heat.

One of the wilder temperatures swings I've seen in a long time... low 50s and 40s to 90s yesterday afternoon... and back to the 40s and 50s right now! 91° was our high yesterday... nothing nearly that hot today.

While not frigid by any means, it is definitely going to feel rather cool today! Especially compared to yesterday's record heat, we'll be about 40 degrees cooler this afternoon. Gusty north winds will also keep us feeling cool into the evening. Just back to normal March weather!

Staying breezy today as north winds pull in some cooler air for your Sunday. Gusts to around 35mph possible through about noon, backing off a little for the afternoon but still breezy. Definitely not quite the 90 degree weather we had yesterday!

Good morning Iowa! After yesterday's record heat ... a little reality check today. Cooler air is flowing in from the north right now, though southeast Iowa is still enjoying some warm conditions with temps around 70. Northwestern Iowa has already dropped into the mid-40s!

We have already matched the record high today with our 1pm temp of 86°! We still have several hours of warming to go, 90s will be here soon!

Some ridiculous warmth for March is expected across the state! Upper 80s to low 90s, with the warmest in the southwest corner. Record highs likely broken for many cities, and this will likely go down as one of the warmest March days on record for much of the state!

Good morning Des Moines! A few clouds giving us a beautiful sunrise to start this very warm March day. This batch of morning clouds will quickly fade with summer-like sun for the rest of your Saturday!

A few clouds linger over the metro early this morning with about 30 minutes to go to sunrise... but they should clear quickly leaving us with a sunny day! Beautiful sunrise underway in Algona right now... going to be feeling like summer out there today!

The record setting heat today combined with dry conditions and very low humidity will lead to very high fire danger across much of the state. Central and southwest Iowa is under a Red Flag Warning through this evening, any outdoor burns should be delayed until next week.

If we do hit 90 degrees tomorrow... that would be the earliest 90 degree day on record for Des Moines! The record currently stands on March 29th, 1986 when we hit 91 degrees. That also happens to be our warmest March temperature on record as well. Some incredible heat possible!

Very good chance that all of our "official" reporting sites across central Iowa set record highs tomorrow! The first full day of Spring will be feeling a bit more like summer out there. Hope your A/C is working!

Record high tied for Des Moines! We have hit 79 degrees (so far) this afternoon! That ties the record from 1938. With clouds moving in, it's unlikely that we will break the record, but it's still a possibility. Certainly making a strong run at tomorrow's record high as well.

Getting very close to the record high right now in Des Moines! Just need one more degree .... already some 80s showing up for parts of the metro! Indianola has hit the first 80 of the year... Atlantic is up to 82 degrees!
