Αλλά IMHO unjustified chaotic misunderstood PR

Look it happens that the algorithm you are referring to is mine, indeed the FC 2026 submission was co-authored from, my back then, intern Mahd. I personally asked him to join as I trust he is one of the most promising ZK PQ rising talents. proofs 1st publication in CCS 2025, but the algorithm was invented on early days of Mysten Labs / Sui (around 2021): x.com/kostascrypto/s…

@kostascrypto But soundness is building something like this. You keep saying Sui, there's a paper where you and one of the team co wrote. Currently testnet been paused for months we need to understand. You've talked about them and which gave most people the energy to trust them.

After two nights of April Fools quantum drama, let’s drop some receipts, mostly to get back my sanity as I was left without saliva. First stateless (multi-use) quantum-safe signatures in crypto / distributed ledgers? Yeah… that was me and Mike Hearn (one of the OG Bitcoin devs). We designed and shipped the first stateless post-quantum scheme in production for blockchains a decade ago. 10 years later Google posts a paper and suddenly everyone’s calling… …but they’re all late and thirsty. 😅 Believe me, SUI is on something quantum unique

Now I realize that back then my PR was approved both by Mike Hearn (Bitcoin OG dev) and Ross Nicole (core dev of Dogecoin), ah... memories of a lot younger BTC maxi OG generation, time flies

The best time to upgrade to post-quantum cryptography is before everyone else realizes they need it @SuiNetwork will be post quantum ready due to excellent architectural design Zero compromise on first principles

@brian_armstrong Brian @brian_armstrong please consider us for any advice and optimizations on this matter. I can also describe why Facebook and Libra explored it, what are the practical considerations, and obviously the actual cryptography threat model and implementation risks.

We've set up an independent advisory board on quantum computing and blockchain. Security is our highest priority at Coinbase. Preparing for future threats, even those many years away, is crucial for our industry. Quantum computers could have implications for blockchain/crypto. It's important we're thinking these through and preparing where necessary. We are honored to bring together some of the most distinguished researchers in quantum computing, cryptography, consensus, and blockchain systems to ensure this is being properly considered.

@gon_web3 And I refer to historically for any blockchain, don’t be surprised that after 10y since my first GitHub commit, modern chains will also pick a version of sphincs today, and after Google’s announcement

Are you sure? Probably the first from anybody you have interacted. I added the first post quantum signatures, hash based Sphincs, into R3 Corda, back in 2017. Iirc this was the first ever quantum safe contribution of stateless hash based signatures in the history of usable blockchains, even if it was for an institution focused chain.

Ofc I get it it’s wrapped stark into G16, but why would you use a non pq safe system to prove a quantum safety advancement? If such a quantum computer existed today one could have created fake proofs. It’s probably a miss, but for those who asked me I don’t believe it’s on purpose, SP1 is just the most convenient zkVM today and I guess they needed a quick path to publish that paper. But if I were in their shoes I’d use something else, Ligero and co

Ironically, Google relied on Groth16, an elliptic-curve based proof vulnerable to quantum attacks, to showcase their quantum-safe advancement.

I believe we’ve done more work than most out there, both on foundational post quantum algorithms (like the only backwards compatible solution on EdDSA sigs), hash based sigs compression via Starks, short few time sigs (BPQS), the first opensource Starks prover and crypto agility. I’m a quantum transition advocate, I just disagree with the PR misconception this has caused

Literally nothing changed from that misunderstood Google paper on the expected timelines on when and iff quantum supremacy will ever be possible. Nothing breaks on 2029, nothing

Theoretical progress is one thing, and I acknowledge that, there has indeed been some advancement, including the effort to consolidate the threat model into a single paper. Where I take issue is with the PR narrative. Many uninformed people now assume that Google has already implemented this machine, or that 2029 is some kind of doomsday. In reality, it’s just a theoretical improvement; even with optimistic engineering extrapolation, we’re still far from anything practical.

The main issue is unjustified PR around this, maybe not from Alphabet’s marketing, but because bad news sell better it created unnecessary miscommunication chaos. That computer doesn’t exist, at the moment it’s some relatively small optimization one algorithm (not a real order of magnitude) which shouldn’t change the clock of practical quantum supremacy date

Google research put out a reasonable report on the theoretical quantum threat to Bitcoin. You have to at least accept that there’s a small chance they are right. Instead, most bitcoiners are acting like Google punched their mom in the boob.
