Announcing the preliminary program for Cedarcrypt — our inaugural applied cryptography summer school and conference, July 13–16, 2026 at the American University of Beirut - Mediterraneo in Paphos, Cyprus! We've put together a program we're genuinely proud of — a pedagogical progression from accessible foundations to state-of-the-art constructions, featuring lectures, hands-on workshops, and research talks from leading voices across academia and industry. The program spans everything from accessible foundations to cutting-edge research: Bart Preneel (KU Leuven) opens with a keynote, followed by deep dives into FHE with Emad Heydari Beni (Nokia Bell Labs), state-of-the-art hash-based SNARKs with Giacomo Fenzi (EPFL), and Zero-Knowledge Proofs with Tarek Galal (TU Berlin). Practitioners will hear from Zeke Hunter-Green how The Guardian built their anonymous whistleblowing system (CoverDrop + MLS), and a host of other guest speakers who will help attendees learn post-quantum migration strategies across lattices, isogenies, and codes, and get hands-on with threshold signing, MPC engineering, and constant-time programming — all in four days on the Mediterranean coast. Organized in collaboration with the IACR, and hosted on Cyprus's Mediterranean coast — a UNESCO World Heritage city where you can step from a workshop on threshold signing straight to a seaside taverna. Thanks to our generous sponsors — Electi, PQShield, Symbolic Software, Zama, and several anonymous donors — we're offering FULL SCHOLARSHIPS (travel + lodging) to students and early-career researchers, awarded on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted. Graduate students, early-career researchers, and practitioners in applied cryptography: we built this for you! Join us this July in sunny Paphos! Let's make this an inaugural event to remember!

New password-cracking technology outperforms all existing quantum computers combined. Rotate all your passwords NOW.

I "ported" @hashcat to the GBA, the ultimate password cracking rig ever (my dumbest project yet). The monstrously powerful 16.78 MHz ARM7TDMI chip does an astronomical 727 SHA256 hashes per second!! which is about thirty million times slower than a modern cracking rig. 350 days of continuous cracking on this bad boy could be done in about 1 second with a modern GPU-accelerated cracking rig.

I resigned from Google DeepMind bc it broke its founding promise by selling AI to the military without restrictions against killer robots or mass spying. For months, I worked to stop this but watched powerful ethicists and institutions choose silence. Here's what happened. 🧵

It's day two of the inaugural edition of Cedarcrypt!!! We opened with an excursion along the Cyprus coastline, everyone had tons of fun! Day 1 started with Bana Bashour's talk on the role of higher education in turbulent times, followed by Bart Preneel's keynote tracing 50 years of the "Crypto Wars", from the Clipper Chip to today's client-side scanning debates. We heard from Marios Isaakidis on rethinking organizational IT as a cryptography problem, from Alireza Rafiei and Mateusz Kramarczyk on what it actually takes to ship cryptography that survives contact with production, and got hands-on with lattice attacks on RSA and ECC in Meryem Cherkaoui Semmouni's workshop. The day closed with a panel on the future of applied cryptography featuring Bart Preneel, Giacomo Fenzi, Lúcás Meier, and Vitalik Buterin, and a great dinner on a Paphos mountain top! Day 2 shifted into "cryptography in practice" mode: Anjan Roy on why constant-time programming is where real vulnerabilities hide, Emad Heydari Beni walking us from FHE theory to real deployments, and Anna Weine's workshop taking us from a tampered-JavaScript attack all the way to a working transparency log for web app integrity. As I write this, lighting talks are next! Grateful to every speaker, attendee, and organizer who's made this week feel like a real community coming together in Paphos. Expect another update soon!

A few videos of last night’s attack, when violent settlers invaded umm al-khair to plant Israeli flags and try to steal another tract of land. Take note of all the cheap shots. Throwing a tiny female activist to the ground. Knees to the groin. Kicking someone while hiding behind a friend. Taking a shot at my throat. And then scampering to the IDF when they arrived to cry victim. To be clear — the Palestinians and their allies did not ask for this confrontation, and did not throw a single punch back, which would have resulted in an immediate arrest if not murder. All they want is to be left alone in their tiny peaceful village.

Really brutal assault on umm al-khair just now. Will share full video later, but these two guys (among many others) both punched and kicked me repeatedly, assaulted a 78-year-old activist, threw a small woman to the ground. Second guy had a pistol and somebody showed up with a machine gun after. Army showed up when it was over, settlers told them to detain me, which they did before leaving without a word. A local elderly woman is being rushed to the hospital. We’re afraid they’re coming back tonight. They are getting more violent every day, and will kill somebody soon without intervention from United States embassy. @GovMikeHuckabee
