Irish patients with Friedreich’s ataxia are still waiting for access to treatment. No interim access pathway. No clear timeline. No escalation when a condition worsens. This is a progressive illness. Delay leads to deterioration. Other European countries have moved. Ireland has not. I have raised this with the Minister and through Parliamentary Questions. €832 million. That is what the HSE spent on agency staffing in 2025. Up from €726 million in 2024. That is a rise of €106 million in one year. Waiting lists are heading towards 1 million. And the Government is cutting capacity. • 950,000+ people already waiting • 111,000 increase in months • 300,000 waiting for diagnostics • 94,000 waiting over a year Insourcing treated over 500,000 patients. It worked. Now it is being scaled back. This is a policy failure. You do not reduce waiting lists by removing capacity. You reduce them by adding it. Patients will pay the price through longer delays and worse outcomes. The Government must answer a simple question. What replaces the lost capacity? A TD in Dail Eireann gave a character reference to Daniel Ramamoorthy, who was previously convicted of sexually exploiting a 13 year old boy. Simon Harris is now calling on this TD to come forward and put their name to it. You’d have to question anyone who would give a character reference to a person who had sexually exploited a child. Should this TD be forced to resign their seat over this? It was reported that Daniel Ramamoorthy, a former adviser in the Department of Enterprise, who was previously convicted of sexually exploiting a child had received a character reference from an unnamed TD. The trial judge said it was “quite extraordinary” that the references from the TD and numerous others failed to mention the victim or the “vile nature” of the crime committed.
