This #WorldBeeDay, we recognize the vital role pollinators play in sustaining healthy ecosystems, resilient rangelands, and pastoral livelihoods. Across Kenya’s drylands, bees support the regeneration of native vegetation that communities, livestock, and wildlife depend on. Protecting pollinators therefore means protecting biodiversity, ecosystem health, and the future of pastoral landscapes. IMPACT Kenya continues to support community-led livelihood initiatives such as beekeeping that strengthen resilience while promoting environmental stewardship. By linking sustainable livelihoods to healthy ecosystems, communities are increasingly becoming active custodians of the landscapes they depend on ; protecting vegetation, supporting biodiversity, and reducing pressures that contribute to land degradation. This reflects the broader vision of the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists #IYRP2026 ; recognizing the importance of healthy rangelands, Indigenous knowledge, and pastoralist stewardship in sustaining both people and nature. Beekeeping is more than an income-generating activity. It is part of a broader pathway toward ecosystem restoration, coexistence, and climate resilience. #WorldBeeDay #IYRP2026 #Beekeeping #Biodiversity #Pastoralism #ClimateResilience #Rangelands

For generations, our people have known that the land and the people share one heartbeat. You cannot separate the grass from the cow, the water from the wildlife, or peace from our survival. Too often, outsiders measure "community engagement" by names on a piece of paper bodies sitting in a meeting in a photo. But to us, true engagement isn't a checkbox. It is measured by whether our children can herd livestock in peace long after the visitors leave. Today, our rangelands are crying out. Climate pressures shrink our watering holes, grass is scarce, and our traditional boundaries and livestock routes are shifting. When these pressures push us apart, our ancient governance systems weaken, our landscapes fracture, and conflict takes root. Last week, with the support of IMPACT Kenya, our elders, our morans (youth), and our women sat together. Representatives from West Gate, Kipsing, Oldonyiro, Laikipia, and the Isiolo belt gathered under the shade to speak the truth, share our burdens, and look at the land as one connected home. We didn't just talk. We facilitated the rebuilding of: ➡️ The sacred trust between our neighboring communities. ➡️ Coordinated management of the grass and water that feeds us all. ➡️ The protection of our traditional livestock corridors so our herds can move safely. ➡️ The authority of our local elders and traditional governance systems.. ➡️ Healthy and thriving ecosystems As the world marks the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (hashtag#IYRP2026), we remind everyone: the answers to protecting this earth do not come from the outside. They come from the communities who have guarded these landscapes for millennia. #IYRP2026 #PeaceBuilding #Biodiversity #ClimateResilience visit our website to learn more about our work ➡️ impactkenya.org

Did You Know? 💧 Rangeland water systems sustain biodiversity, wildlife, vegetation, soil health, and livelihoods; not just livestock. When degraded, they leave behind dry riverbeds, reduced pasture, and vulnerable ecosystems. Indigenous pastoral knowledge remains vital in protecting these landscapes. #IYRP2026 #Rangelands #Pastoralism #waterAndbiodiversity

The future of land restoration and climate resilience depends on the communities that have safeguarded these landscapes for generations. As part of #UNCCD’s Road to #COP17 and the launch of the Silk Road Caravan 2026 in Antalya, Türkiye, IMPACT Kenya is proud to contribute to global conversations reconnecting policy, Indigenous knowledge, and pastoralist stewardship. Today, our colleague Elizabeth Silakan joins the dialogue as a panelist, sharing perspectives from pastoralist communities and locally led restoration efforts across Kenya’s drylands. #SilkRoadCaravan #LandRestoration #Pastoralists #ClimateAction #Biodiversity

How can pastoral livestock value chains create greater opportunity for women, strengthen local economies, and build resilience in the face of climate change? This question is at the heart of a new journey that IMPACT Kenya has begun through Women Economic Empowerment and Resilience in Pastrolist communities Project [WEE-RESP+], working alongside communities in Laikipia, Marsabit, Samburu and Isiolo counties to explore what inclusive, market-driven and locally rooted solutions can look like. Grounded in dialogue with communities, women leaders and local institutions, these first engagements are helping surface insights around goat milk production systems, gender dynamics, market opportunities and the strengths that already exist within communities. This initiative intends to transform pastoralist women into competitive market actors, improve household nutrition and create climate -resilient systems fostering long term economic empowerment and resilient in Northern Kenya #WEERESP+ #WomenEconomicEmpowerment #PastoralistLivelihoods #ClimateResilience #GenderTransformativeDevelopment #IndigenousKnowledge @gatesfoundation

Climate change and shrinking economic opportunities continue to place pressure on the future of Indigenous youth across Northern Kenya. But within communities in Laikipia and beyond, a different story is taking shape. The Maiyanat Indigenous Youth Life Skills, Arts and Culture Development Centre is creating opportunity for youth across Northern Kenya—opening up apprenticeship pathways grounded in community realities. Through practical, hands-on learning, young people are building the confidence and capacity to shape their own futures while remaining rooted in their communities and contributing to their resilience. The Youth Skills Roadshow & Exhibition builds on this work by creating a shared space where skills are seen, understood, and valued. In this way, it becomes more than a showcase—it is a collective moment where learning, opportunity, and partnership come together to shape locally driven solutions for the future. Come learn, support, collaborate, and invest in the potential of Indigenous youth driving change from within their communities #indigenouspeople #climateaction #youthempowernment

In Mt. Kulal, communities have protected their land for generations—but without formal registration, they have little say in decisions. They’re not against development. They’re asking to be included. As investments expand, are human rights being considered? #LandJustice #JustTransition #ClimateJusticeKE

Climate solutions must be built with communities, not for them. At #LaikipiaClimateTalk in Il Ngwesi, IMPACT Kenya brought together pastoralist communities and partners, alongside the #FederalRepublicofGermanyEmbassyinKenya, to unpack carbon markets on the ground. This was more than a dialogue—this was about ensuring communities understand, question, and shape carbon projects before decisions are made. @LaikipiaCountyG #ClimateJustice #CarbonMarkets

Across pastoralist lands, renewable energy is expanding—but so are questions of land, access, and survival. IMPACT Kenya, alongside partners, has been working with communities to strengthen awareness, support dialogue, and create more space for their voices in these processes. But who defines what a “just transition” looks like? #KenyaNationalCommissiononHumanRights (KNCHR) #KIOSfoundation #DelegationofTheEuropeanUniontoKenya,#CSONETWORK #InformActionKenya #LandJustice #JustTransition #ClimateJusticeKE

Sometimes resilience begins with something simple — water storage. In Laikipia, IMPACT Kenya is supporting women’s groups with water tanks to strengthen resilience to climate change. Less time searching for water means more time for livelihoods and stronger household wellbeing. #ClimateResilience #watersecurity

When communities lead in managing their land, restoration goes beyond an intervention. In Lpus Community Land, Samburu, 180 community members are restoring degraded rangelands as part of IMPACT Kenya’s work to strengthen resilience. With early rains already received, if the season holds — what could this mean for rangeland recovery?#RangelandRestoration #CommunityResilience

What does progress look like for women and girls when access to justice still feels distant? As part of International Women’s Day 2026, IMPACT Kenya held conversations with women in Samburu on the realities shaping their lives. Issues often dismissed as “common,” like teenage pregnancy, remain deeply real — alongside the long and discouraging journey many survivors face when seeking justice. IWD is not only about celebration, but listening and strengthening systems that protect women and girls. #InternationalWomensDay2026 #AccessToJustice #WomenAndGirls #Accountability

What do five goats mean to a pastoralist household? In Leparua, it means a chance to rebuild. IMPACT Kenya restocked 250 climate-resilient Galla goats to 50 households, helping women and families restart livelihoods. As we mark International Women's Day under the theme #GiveToGain, we’re reminded: when women gain access to assets, communities grow stronger. @Misereor
